converting tub to shower?
After I cap off the tub faucet how do I move the control valve for the shower to be at a comfortable height? Will I have to cut the pipes and solder? I believe it is copper.

Yes you will have to cut and solder or there is a non-solder connector called Shark Bite that you can use after you make your cuts with a pipe cutter.

If you plan on opening the wall ( for control height & shower head), you can still have both tub & shower controls (or not) by adding a diverter valve & shower mixer.
A plumbing supply shop (real one) can supply you w/ valves, fittings & tips on how to connect .
There will be some cutting & soldering to be done .
Most supply pipes are copper& are relatively easy to work with.
