viola solo . . .?
I need to find a Viola Solo. Free is what I'm looking for. I've looked at 8 notes, but I want something a little more, I don't know. It's for an OYO (Oklahoma Youth Orchestra) tryout. Any suggestions?

It is really hard finding good viola solos online! I've been searching for an hour and couldn't find much for free.
Try this piece, http://www.jimpix.co.uk/v/sheetmusic/pdf/unaccvla6...
It's just a song composed by this guy called Mike Nelson, so I couldn't find a recording of it anywhere. It can't hurt to try, though.
I think you may have to resort to buying music. Personally, Apres Un Reve, by Faure, is really nice on viola, especially if you have good vibrato.
Here's a link to buy: http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/pages.html?cart=3417...
And here's one to listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEq4XHRoNC0
Another good song is Ave Maria, by Bach, although it's not written for viola. I wasn't able to find a version online but I'm sure you can search more diligently than I did. Another Ave Maria by Piazzolla is really nice. Same goes for the availabilty. You can hear them though:
Bach: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EE74-G_o6DY (cello version, played in alto clef I think)
Piazzolla: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNQcpMU5zCY
And if you're any good at listening to a song and playing it by ear, or copying a song down by ear, then I would suggest Asturiana by Manuel de Falla. It's really nice on viola, if you've ever heard it played by Kim Kashkashian. http://www.amazon.com/Asturiana-Songs-Spain-Argent... You can also download Asturiana off of Limewire. But obtaining the viola sheet music is really hard. The only copy I know of is available here, but it's a bit pricey: http://www.musicroom.com/se/ID_No/018070/details.h...
($29.00 in the US)
Maybe you could transpose it from a violin version.
But anyway, good luck! I'm a teen violist myself and I hope you do great.

The only one that I can recall at the moment, is Hector Berlioz's "Harold in Italy"; a great piece of music. You can listen to it on You Tube. Alberich
