How do you put exercise equipment on community lots in the Sims 2 (no expansions)?

Start the game in neighborhood view, then choose the Lots and Houses Bin (F2). This enables you to choose a community lot that you want to customize or build from scratch.
After you enter the lot, then just go to the buy catalog (F2) and you'll find most exercise equipment listed with the Chess knight, Hobbies icon and don't forget a wall TV for working out. It is also a good idea to be sure the lot has a facilities for stinky sims. :)
