Why do Australians put up with all the price gouging happening here?

Why is there no public outcry out there with businesses here in Australia price gouging the people.

Prices here in Australia is still the same as when our Australian dollar worth nearly half of US dollar.

I mean, I can imagine that businesses will straight away complain and hike their prices if the opposite happen and Australian dollar dropped.

Why is computer items are still nearly twice more expensive than in America (bad for Australia's techonology development)

Now we're paying more for our groceries (meat, poultry) than Americans

We're also paying more for petrol

Can someone please tell me why the lack of public outcry?

I don't think there is a lack of outcry. I listen to talk back radio alot, and it is usually the number one topic. The big 2 grocery chains and the oil companies are getting away with far to much, and no government, State, Federal, Liberal or Labor has the b^lls to take them on. The ACCC is a toothless tiger and does NOTHING....oh yea....they are going to name and shame the naughty ones. BIG DEAL!! Don't worry, there are many who share your anger. Deregulation!! What a joke. Australia must be the laughing stock of the world, and big business must be cracking their necks to get here. The State Governments give foreign investors tax cuts to lure them in, and the poor ol' Aussie Battler gets zilch! Oh yeah...I remember....it's the drought. Or was it a cyclone? A flood? Our governments can come up with billions of dollars to give away, but can't clean up it's own house. I'm with you.

I cant tell you why but I totally agree. We have to be one of the most apathetic countries in the world. Our politician don't listen to us and we do nothing about it. The vast majority of Australians favor the decriminalization of marijuana. But when the politicians move the other way and increase the penalties we don't say a word. Nearly everyone speeds by at least 10km/h but when they announced they were going to quadruple the number of revenue raising Multi-novas, no probs mate. Anti-terror laws were brought in allowing the imprisonment of anyone for 6 months without trial violating the most basic human right to a speedy trial, "Brilliant idea, justice is over rated anyway". I guess the two party system we have just doesn't work, neither of them listen, so who do you vote for?

Honey, most Aussies are too laid back to do much. Besides which, what choices do we have? Pay, or go without! This isn't Bali, where every price is negotiable.

People do protest, it's on the news all the time.
