Is Yao Ming the biggest underachiever in the NBA?

He gets injured every year and he should put up more block and get more rebounds since he is that tall. Im not saying he is overrated just that he is underacheiveing, there is a difference.

No someone like Sam Bowie was WAY more underachieving than Yao.

In the 1984 draft, the Portland Trailblazers drafted Sam Bowie, a 7'1 center/power forward from Kentucky with the second overall pick. The first pick was center Akeem Olajuwon. The third pick was Michael Jordan, a 6'6 swing player from North Carolina. While Olajuwon has gone on to have a Hall of Fame career and Michael Jordan is considered by many as the greatest player of all-time, Bowie led a long but unremarkable career, coming back from a string of career-threatening leg injuries. His basketball presence was mostly a shell of his former playing self.

His confidence level has gone up since the past few years and injuries will come if you're 7 foot and weight 300+ pounds. Underachieving? Not really. Not aggressive? Kind of, he's gotten better though. Skill is through the roof. You're right he has the potential to be a monster. Besides his injuries, I'd have to say he is ONE of the best "true" center right now. Next to Dwight Howard.

  • Dude, just because a person is tall doesn't automatically make them a great shot blocker, otherwise Dirk and Ilgauskas would be getting a lot. Two blocks a game is pretty decent for a big man. For a guy that's 7'6" he is overachieving. It's not easy being that tall and performing like he does. People that tall are usually pretty uncoordinated when it comes to sports like basketball. His comparable is Shawn Bradley and he is way better than Shawn.

You can't blame his team though right? I mean look at the run they made through the mid-season. If they are lucky they will get out of the first round alive.

absolutely not, when he is healthy he is dominant. He will get there again, and kwame brown #1 overall pick is the most underrated and underachieving player
