I have six pairs of canaries and all of the females are on their nests with eggs.?

One female (her first season) insists on laying eggs in the seed cup. My best female has 3 fledglings ready to leave the nest, but now she has laid eggs in her seed cup, although I've placed a new nest and filler. I don't want to break their cycle and wonder how other experienced breeders handle this problem. Gives a whole new meaning to "bird brains" Maybe if I move the seed cups to another location in cage?

I'm not very experienced with canaries, but your posting raised a few questions in my mind: First, how old are the chicks that are ready to leave the nest? If they are 18 days or older and out of the nest, if there's a male helping to feed them you might consider moving them and the male to another cage, or a divided section of the same cage, so he can feed the chicks and the hen can get busy with her new eggs. Or, if you can divide the cage, you can leave the male with the hen if you set up parallel perches on either side of the divider, cause the hen and the male will feed them through the divider, on perches and from the floor. (Mine do that, anyway.) Other questions: How many eggs has she laid in the seed cup and is she setting? If not, and particularly if the chicks are still in the nest, you can either leave the eggs where they are (give her another seed cup) or remove the eggs and return them to her nest after she's laid the last egg. By then the chicks will probably be ready to be moved out and fed through a divider. You'll want to give them lots of fledgling food and greens. Good luck!

Go to a photo booth and take your picture. Cut out the head and paste it inside their seed cup---------oh, never mind that had something to do with training a bird to go to the bathroom in one spot, sorry!!! :-)

Why don't you just add another seed cup and let her have the one she likes?
