Yuriorkis Gamboa is definately one of the best prospects in the game today. He's only had 9 fights, but he has fought decent competition in those 9 fights and he has looked superb. Plus, you have to remember that he was a dominant amateur coming from the Cuban amateur system (which is by far the best in the world) and he beat the best amateur boxers from around the world to become a gold medalist. I strongly believe that he will win a world title in the future; with Gamboa, it is clear that there is substance behind his hype (unlike Andy Lee).

As for Odlanier Solis- he is a good prospect who also won a gold medal, but he does not have considerable power for a heavyweight, which was shown when he went the distance with club fighters Julius Long and Cisse Salif. There is no doubt that he is a very skilled fighter, but I am not as certain about him becoming a future champ as I am with Gamboa; I would still like to see him develop, but I'm not sure how far he can go compared to Gamboa.

I have to go against the grain on this kid Gamboa, technically he does so many things wrong. His hands are down, he leads with his face & swings wide shots. I know his record & how he has won but I see him & I think of so many ways to beat him.

He has good head movement & speed with good power but I have to wait & see i am not convinced yet. I also think he is too small for his division but as long as he is moved correctly with the right opponents he will go along way.

Most fighters that are successful are always put in the correct fights. What i mean is for instance, he has a big left hook (its wide & ugly) but its strong! put him in with a fighter that is a sucker for that type of punch & there you have it? another k/o. His promoters know what to do, his style will attract the fans which equals money. What he lacks in technique he makes up for in power. I would like to see him in a few years with a good trainer who will not only focus on power but more boxing skills & make him a more complete fighter.

The heavy is just another guy, nothing special & with out power in this division you will have another Chris Byrd who will never be considered a money maker.

I saw Gamboa on ESPN2 over a month ago and I have to say that I was impressed with his destruction in the ring. I was wondering if he's going to be like welterweight, Joel Julio being a strong puncher who can easily be outboxed, like Carlos Quintana did to him. Or I wonder will he be more like Miguel Cotto, having good power and developing more boxing skill, as his career progresses?

No. The Peterson brothers are the best prospects. gamboa looked awesome in his last fight though.
