Sounds like Dave's research is essentially correct. Also keep in mind there are many websites that are infected and like to lure people to their site to spread the wealth as it were.

Given the fact that the internet is full of gimmicks and such, you're much better off finding a less intrusive way to get what you want.

If one is dead set on trying this, the best advice I can give is to create a dummy email address, (hotmail is best because they suck trying to block spam anyway), and provide that for your contact info.

I definitely wouldn't provide much in the way of accurate personal data (address, phone number, etc). as this is usually a sure fire way to get your info out on every tele marketer's database known...
