What's your opinion on adding Military Training to the basic high school curriculum?

My opinion? I feel it would be great discipline. I feel kids these days are totally out of control and irresponsible. I feel it would eliminate a lot of street violence. It's a "me" generation that feels they are entitled to "everything". They don't care about their schools, their morals, their families, their jobs [if they have one] or their Country. What's your opinion?

Update:

Then in times of crisis we would have a prepared populace.

lol... sign of the times, eh?

On a lighter note, it might help prevent some school shootings. Of course, the kids will all have to be carrying sidearms...

And it will save the military sizeable funds on basic training, once mandatory conscription is instituted for the next illegal war.

I actually think it's an excellent idea.

There've been 30 kids killed in our city since

the new year. I think if they had this discipline they would learn to respect themselves and human life in general. Something needs to be done!!

And as the responder above stated, it's the parent's fault. I somewhat agree.

However, in these days with our horrible

economy and both parents having to work

and not able to babysit their kids till they are 18,

[as much as most parents would love to stay home with their kids 24/7]

I think it's time that we respond to the old saying..

that says 'they're all our children'.

Most kids don't live in perfect worlds,

with perfect little crimeless, drugless towns.

    Or a two parent home.

Or Mom actually being a "stay at home" Mom.

These are a rarety these days.

not all kids are out of control these days, discipline should start at home. your blaming the problem on the kids/teens, when you should be blaming today's generation on the parents. if parents would teach there kids how to behave in public, at school, and at home, then half the things that go on these days would not occur. the problem is, parents these days still want to act like they did when they were in college/high school, when they should be stepping up to their responsibilities, i.e. their children, and put some time in with them, that way there kids wont go nuts, and become bad apples.
