Virus in my Laptop still there??!?

I think i may have a virus. I usually download videos through real player, like flash videos from youtube and it works fine. So today i downloaded a video like normal and saved it to my video folder. But when i open it, my laptop lags/becomes very slow, and freezes. i try to delete the video, but windows won't let me as it says im still running a program with it and need to close it. I ran several anti virus scans (avg) and spyware (spybot search and destroy) and adware scans (adware 08) specifically in that folder but nothing showed up. So in end i just deleted the entire folder altogether. so...is the virus still there even if i removed it from my reycle bin? thanks for helping me!

Update:

hm yea i checked my processors and my apps under task manager to see if i was running anything suspicious that i had never seen before or anything that was using alot of mem, but there was nothing from what i saw. My ram is pretty low, only 512 mb but i wasn't running antyhing at that time too. It would take 8 min just to load the files inside my folder too. I am running various in depth scans right now. So if the scans come clean should i still back up my data and reinstall everything or im ok?

Update 2:

O yea i did close all processors that seemed to be related to real player and made sure all programs and apps were closed when i tried deleting the file

The answer could be one of 2 things, but I doubt its a virus

    1) Your computers ram is full, (Physical Memory in task manager) This is no problem to fix, just open up task manager (Ctrl Alt Del), and click the proceseses tab, disable any software you dont want, or dont need to use at the time, this will free up space so your comptuer doesnt lag at all! Leave any using under 1k, and explorer.exe and dwm, make sure its not dislpaying "Proceses from all users" in the bottom left of the window

    2) You could need more ram in general, and a new video card would help

Did you close out the program thats not playing the video?

    Are you on windows Vista?

Did you defragment your hard drive?

Its probably the first one, though I dont really have enough details to make a clear diagnosis.

And just for your info, nothing is truly deleted on a hard drive till its been swiped with a magnet, I can pull up every past website Ive visited... not history... even from like 2 years ago, find long lost pics and vids, ect. there are some softwares that can re write of this stuff, but they tend not to work...

You did the correct thing (virus scan) but go one step more by full scan AVG with current updates then any other spybot or adware. Viruses can travel just like a cold from person to person. (program to program) If you have a virus other programs will be affected maybe? Other things to look at is next time a lag or slow down. if windows click ctrl + alt + del or bring up task manager to see which program is sucking up all your CPU. Warning... Task manager may take a while to load if CPU is already high. For a more detailed report of what is running if you have windows down load free from microsoft Process explorer: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb...

    Good luck

Probably not, however it may have copied itself as some do. Go into search and type in the name to make sure there is no backup file. Also search for all files created when and since you copied that one and if it looks suspicious, backup then delete, if there is no problems with the delete, remove the backup.
