If I buy a new Tivo Series 2 to replace my old series 2...?
do i need to buy service again? When I bought my original Tivo I signed up for lifetime service.

Tivo no longer offers the lifetime subscription option so any additional or replacement units will need a new subscription that you pay monthly on.
Unfortunately, the lifetime service they used to offer is good for only THAT Tivo box.
I'm in the same boat as you. I had a lifetime subscription on my old 40 hour box and now that I upgraded to Series 2 HD I have to pay monthly.

I believe you pay for the unit and then you pay for the service. They don't care. But you might have to call them to see about the re-initialization process.
