How long until a dog heals from neutering?
My 6 month old Standard Poodle puppy Percy just got back from the vet from being neutered. I have ointment, anti-inflammatory pills, and antibiotics to give him. My question is, how long will it be until he is fully healed? He is very energetic even now and wants to play, but I know it is best for him to keep it easy for a while.

<~ When we had our little male neutered, the vet gave him staples and 14 days later, he went back to have them removed.
Our little male slept off and on for the rest of the day (after we brought him home) and drank water and ate a bit. Other than that - he was back to his old self the next day. We just had to try to keep him from jumping and playing too hard.
He was 7 months when we had him neutered ... he healed real fast ... when we let him outside, he'd run like a maniac in the backyard - there wasn't a whole lot we could do to keep him down or quiet when we let him outside to do his thing - so we closely monitored his incision throughout each day watching for anything that could go wrong. He's an inside dog and he loves to sit on our laps ... so we did a lot of sitting for the two weeks waiting for his incision to heal.
Good luck

I own an American Bulldog, he's 1 year old. He was just neutered about 3 weeks ago. The first two days, he was a little groggy. Our vet told us we should keep him calm for a week, until his stitches were to be removed. But by the third day, he was back to normal. We tried to keep him calmed down, but an 85 lb puppy is going to do what he wants to do. My advise is just to not get him too excited with toy, treats, etc. Maybe take him for walks to get a little exercise, nothing too strenuous that could tear those stitches. After the stitches are out and the incision has scabbed and healed over, he can go back to his normal routine. Our dog, Bruno, was back to his crazy antics after about 2 weeks.

My 3 y/o male shih tzu was neutered last Tuesday, and the vet told me to "keep him quiet & from jumping on furniture for 3 days, after that he can resume normal activity". He got disolvable sutures inside, and dermabond outside, so he doesn't have to go in for suture removal. She didn't give him any meds to take, and said if it looks like he's in pain, to take him back for another pain shot. He's been running all over the place & playing like normal since about Friday, which the vet said is ok.

I had my setter neutered recently and he was kept on lead exercise for 2 weeks, then back to normal off leash exercise, although a little bit less mileage than normal. I'd say about 3 weeks before safe to do normal exercise. Important not to let them jump up though for a while...It's amazing how quick they think they are better though!!

Males getting nuetered recover much quicker then females because their procedure is non-invasive. He will probably be fine in a few days but listen to your vet about not letting him be too active for awhile. I would try to keep him as calm as possible for a week or so.

Vets usually recommend no jumping or running for 10 days.
I'm suprised your vet didn't tell you that.
