Teaching ESL?
What test/course do I need to take in order to become an ESL teacher in the US? I have a BA in English Lit & a minor in Creative Writing and am currently an independent ESL tutor here in Taiwan, but they do not require any documentation for tutors here.
So there is no overall qualifications?

It depends on what state you live in. Different states have different requirements for certification.
In Virginia, you would need to get your Master's Degree in Education as well as taking the proper courses for the ESL certification.
For most teaching positions, you can not be hired in Virginia unless you are within 6 credits of certification.
You can contact the Department of Education of any state to find their requirements.

contact a TESL office. They are world wide and will give you the type of qualifications you need. Tesl requires anywhere from a 5 week program to a 2 years Master's program.
