  • FDR's new deal how good was it?

I've heard (from various historians and history majors) that the New Deal actually extended the Great Depression by a few years. IS there any proof to back this up?

Also is the new Stimulus package a variation of the New Deal?

  • Does visual media violence cause increased aggression in females?

This is for a paper. I already have multiple studies on the subject, but now I want public opinions.

By media I am referring to TV dramas, news broadcasts, slasher films and video games.

Books and radio broadcasts can have an impact, but due to the nature of the format it is easier to be distracted from it.

  • Children's song lyrics?

I'm trying to find the name or the lyrics to three children's songs I recall hearing when my brother was young. These were on LPs. The first has a girl singing "Playmate come out and play with me and bring your dollies three, climb up my apple tree, look down my rain barrel, slide down my cellar door and we'll be jolly friends for ever more."

The second has a guy and some kids singing " The cow goes moo, the dog goes woof and the roster he goes cocka doodle do at the break of every day" and they go through nearly every animal you can think of.

The third has a guy singing "And a cowboy needs a hat, needs a hat, needs a hat, and he needs some shiny spurs shiny spurs, shiny spurs if he wants to keep riding, riding along."

    Any ideas?

For the last few months now when people have asked here for something new to read after Twilight, HP or other vampire series I've recommended the Nightwatch series by Sergei Lukyanenko. Has any one actually read these? If so what did you think?

  • can't remember?

I cannot remember what this is from, but I do recall that I loved hearing the different versions of this tale.

Basically this boy is sent by his village to get a cure for a disease. At one point he passes a dying willow tree that is next to a river, the tree asks him for help, but the boy ignores it. The same thing happens with two other creatures he meets. A poor girl from the same village heads out after him to help, much to the derision of the villagers. She helps the willow tree (finds a treasure chest are blocking the roots from the river) and the other creatures and then gets the cure. The villagers are shocked that someone so unpopular/ugly/poor had managed to save them all.

Any clue as to where this is from?

  • Salad for 40?

Alright for a work function I have been assigned to make a salad for 40 people. I'm at a loss as to figure out how much I need to make.

It is just your typical salad with romanine lettuce, red peppers, capers, onions, artichoke hearts, croutons, raisins and sliced baby tomatoes. Maybe some fresh motarella if I can find any in Taipei.

Normally when I make this 3 heads of lettuce is used for 4-5 people, but we are big salad eaters.

There will be a lot of other food there, so should I just make enough for 20 and hope for the best?

    Any thoughts?

  • pasta/dough machine problems?

I have an Osrow X700, but do not have the instruction book or a decent recipe for basic pasta dough. I've checked allrecipes.com, food network.com & bbc.com all of them have recipes for machines with rollers. This machine does not. I cannot find the company that made the Osrow online.

if anyone has this machine or even remembers it, please help me.

And no comments on how I should just buy pasta or a newer machine for that is not an option at this time.

  • Social Security and financial aid?

Alright I have applied for a name change (due to marriage) from the Social Security Department six times in the last four years. I've even mailed the form in certified and every year at tax time I've discovered that it hasn't gone through. Now I've been attempting to apply for federal aid for online classes while overseas (my passport is in my married name, along w/ my drivers & id cards) only to have it rejected for the same reason. The US Embassy has forwarded the required documents to the SS Office & I was told it might take up to 6 months to go through. My question: Should I apply for aid under my maiden name & then change it when the SS card comes in? Or should I just apply for a loan (which I might not get) in my married name? The Embassy & the IRS both say that my married name is legal, but now I'm not quite sure.

  • at what age is it safe for an infant to travel?

  • stroller help?

I live on the side of a steep mountain & do not have a car. So When taking the bus to grocery shopping with infant what am I to put her in? I have a hiking back pack for the food, but I'm not sure of one for her. The road is very steep so any stroller would need to be very easy to manouver, light enough to push & lift onto a bus & not take up much room. Any suggestions?

The bus costs 15 & a cab 105 each way to the closest grocery and it it a three mile walk.

  • On a bus who has right of seating?

The buses & metro here all have priority seating. According to the signs it is for women with infants, the disabled, the elderly & the pregnant.

Anyone can sit there, but if there are no other seats it is expected to give up the seat for someone that falls into that catagory.

My question is who has the main right?

I'm 7 months pregnant and look it and yet when an elderly man gets on (one without a cane, heavy packages or limp) I have been yelled at (by standing people) to give up my seat. Some days I don't mind, but the last time this happened I couldn't get up until the bus reached the next stop (balance problems) & almost fell because none of the "able" people moved to let me hold the railing. (I'm too short to hold the handles that hang from the celing.)

So other than not taking the bus, what is your opinion?
