FDR's new deal how good was it?
I've heard (from various historians and history majors) that the New Deal actually extended the Great Depression by a few years. IS there any proof to back this up?
Also is the new Stimulus package a variation of the New Deal?

This argument is being trotted out by conservatives and Republicans to knock down Obama's stimulus package.
I really doubt that even a decade a go this would have been feasible, but now enough times has passed so that FDR's detractors can try to rewrite history.
The truth is still remembered by my father, who as a young man saw people with literally nothing but two chairs and the clothes on their back. He knew people who were going without food, and fathers who were on the verge of violent action.
FDR saved the nation, and capitalism with it.

To answer your question you are being told the truth - the New Deal did extend the Great Depression. You can do your own research and find this out for yourself though. Look on Wikipedia, they have great info.
Also, the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) is a good way to measure the economy for a given year of course it has its limitations. Not sure info available for that time frame though. From personal knowledge - the biggest thing to boost the US economy is always TAX CUTS, not spending more and more as the currant gov. administration is trying to do as FDR did. Actually the current administration would have you believe FDR did not spend enough fast enough.
If you go by the current admin and most of the crazy liberal media out there, they would have you believe the US economy has not been as bad a shape as it is now since the great depression of FDR's time. I beg to differ as many other do along with many economists. The depression of the early 80's was way worse than now, look at the GDP. FACT The 80's depression was creadted by another winy liberal Pork spending goof, one of the worst Presidents of all time Carter.
It was left for Reagan to fix that mess. As histry shows he did.
