It sounds like a Red eared slider or a Yellow bellied slider
Does it have red stripes on its head or on top of it's head?
And does it have blackish marks on the bottom part of it's shell?
If it has these features it's most likely to be a redeared slider and you need to find like a BIG container or a kiddie pool if you just are keeping it temporaily. Fill it with water with a floating piece of wood or a slope of rocks so it can come up and bask.Fill the water almost to the top with a few inches of the bucket not filled with water.Next either place the container outside, but away from potetial dangers; such as predators or something like that.Or you can put it inside with like a lamp over it.You will have to feed it in the water because they have no saliva, feed it rosy red minnows, bought from a major petstore like petco or petsmart, or you can give it like collard greens or you can buy crickets, mealworms, bloodworms from petsmart/petco DO NOT feed them the ones you find in your backyard because they can carry parasites. You will also need the water in the tank to be about 75- 80 degrees because it won't eat if its too cold. If you are choosing to keep it as a pet then you would need to buy like a 50 gallon aquarium or atleast a 30 gallon one because since you found it in a creek then its probably an aquatic turtle and it will need to swim A LOT.I don't recommend keeping it as a pet because it belongs where it came from and you shouldn't take it out of it's home. You will also need a basking light and a UVB light. You will need a strong filter, a place for it to come up and dry off and bask in the light. Basking is essential to turtles beause it promotes shell growth and it prevents fungus. You will also need a cuttlefish bone for its calcium so it wouldn't get soft shell, which is a preventable disease that can be deadly if left untreated. And you would ned to give it a variety of foods. If it doesnt eatfor like aday its not really serious beause the turtle might just be very stressed out since he's away from were he came from.He will eventually get used to his new home and he wil eat again.Th water depth should be almost full with a few inches left so the turtle can't escape and get lost and possibly hurt.
If it is a yellow bellied slider then it would have no black marks on it's belly and it's bottom shell would be totally yellow.
If you are temporarily keeping it then its care would be smilar to the red eared slider's care. But, if you want to keep it as a pet then you will need atleast a 15 gallon tank, but it will grow so i recommend starting out with a 60 gallon tank so you wouldn't have to buy more tanks as the turtle grows. You can feed it a varied diet of wax worms, meal worms, and crickets as treats also, you can feed them feeder fish and chopped veggies.Again, DO NOT use the ones you would find in your backyard because they can carry parasites.Adult females tend to be more herbivorous than adult males and young males.
Anyways, I hope this helps and I wish you good luck!
P.S. you shouldn't keep it as a pet because it belongs in the wild from where it came from.

At that size, almost all turtles are carnivores. Good foods are live earthworms, small fishes, soft-bodied insects, and liver dusted with bonemeal.
If you want an ID, the best way is to post a picture and to be more specific about your location. Do you have any idea how many "Rock Creeks" there are? It's almost as bad as "Mill Creek" or "Muddy Run". Actually, your location isn't as important as the picture; a lot of sliders and cooters have been released outside their ranges by well-meaning idiots and have displaced the native turtles.
Finally, don't worry too much about rushing to feed it. Turtles are tough.

Make sure that you wash your hands, really well. You can get sick from handling turtles. The food, depends on, what type of turtle you have found. Go to a local pet store and ask questions, about keeping a baby turtle.

Sounds like you may have found a box turtle. The best thing to do is contact the forestry service; they can find somebody who is trained in caring for wild babies. Hope I helped!

let it go in the creek. its not ment to live indoors. if you want a turtle you should buy 1 @ a pet store, not take one out of its natural habitat
