and can you really lose weight by overdosing

Most contain chemicals that will make you vomit them back up if you overdose.
If you manage to keep them down they can cause liver and kidney failure, which can be pretty catastrophic. It depends on the drug and the dose though.
I think by overdosing you would be to nauseous to eat anything, I don't know if there is any other reason you would lose weight, apart from vomiting.

Overdose implies too much. Too much can range from just "more than recommended" to "gosh, I can't believe you have taken so much"; so worst case is death.

usually when you overdose on painkillers, you go to sleep and the overdose causes you to breathe very slow, and sometimes you quit breathing and die, sometimes you vomit while you are sleeping and choke on your vomit
