Mustang was the best seller. Corvette split wndow is very popular with collectors. The 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO is the most expensive car (at auction) of all time topping $10 million. Replica bodies available fit Datsun 280Z.

Depends on what you define as "popular". If you are wondering what the most desirable or collectible car of the 60's was, then that answer is going to be very subjective and usually limited to Muscle Cars or exotic European models.
On the other hand, if you mean popular as in the best selling car of the era, then it most likely will be some very mundane economy car. Let's not forget that the number one selling vehicle of all time is the Toyota Corolla. With nothing but economy cars and pickup trucks rounding out the top 10.

THE most popular car of the 60's has to be the Mustang, it came out in early 64 and is still sold today. It outsold every make in the 60's !

MUSTANG - hands down the best selling car EVER. Introduced in mid '64 - it outsold everything going.
The first pony car, this car caught every ones imagination. Engine selections ranged from a 170 cu. in. six cylinder to a 289 cu. in. 271 horsepower V8.

Considering all the muscle cars and the advent of imports, one would have to give serious consideration to the VW Bug and the the VW Van.
Although the Pontiac GTO would be my pick.
