ever had a real "sleeper"? what was it and what made it a great sleeper?

my first was a plain jane '68 Impala 396 4spd, but my best was a '79 Buick Regal, white with a blue vinyl top and stock hubcaps, with a '66 Pontiac 421 motor and Hurst Lightning Rod shifter. man, talk about a surprise on the cruising circuit on Friday nights! no one saw that coming. tell me yours.

    When I was in high school ( 1974 ) I had a buddy

who bought a brand new 1974 Gremlin with a 6 cyl. That motor lasted about a week. he went to a boneyard an got a 390 out of an AMX. Stock wheels, tiny hubcaps and dual exhaust with stock mufflers. Didn't take long for everybody to find out!

The second car I ever owned was an 85 Oldsmobile Cutlass Salon. I purchased it for $3000 from this guy that pulled the god awful crap 307 engine out of it and dropped a 455 Olds Rocket engine into it. He did some head work and stuck a lopey cam in it before I snagged it. The beauty of it was the dual 2.5 inch exhaust which had some seriously quiet Walker style mufflers on it. If you pulled up to it you would think it was just the stock Olds engine missing or on it's last legs. The only thing that appeared different from stock was the 255 wide tires on the rear. I surprised many of the local Mustangs with that thing. I never did get to a track with it but I know it had to at least be a mid 12 second car on the street tires.

My bro has a 98 Regal GS and he put on performance brake discs and pads and a new pulley for the blower. It still gets decent mpg's and with his mods running premium fuel, it totally rocks! See the link I sent you and look at peoples pics. So sweet.

If I tell you what makes these cars a great sleeper, you don't know cars and when we meet on the highway I might sho you.

    Never had one.

A great sleeper is a car that does not look fast or have any exterior upgrades. It must look stock, but have light weight or lots of power.
