When a pitcher is not credited with a win or a loss.

When a pitcher leaves a game and does not get a win or a lose.

Some reasons a no desision could happen are the starting pitcher did not pitch the minium 5 innings, the pitcher left the game and it was tied, or a following pitcher was credited with the win or lose

A "No Decision" is a stat kept primarily for starting pitchers, but applies to all pitchers.

At the end of the game two pitchers always factor into the "decision". One gets the win (W). The other gets the loss (L).

In order to get a win, you have to have pitched in the game for at least 5 innings and your team had the lead when you left (if you are a starting pitcher), for a relief pitcher to get a win his team had to be either losing or tied when he entered the game, and his team obtained the lead while he was pitching and held on to the lead and won. He gets the Win.

To get a loss: A starting pitcher lost, or failed to go 5 innings. Or a relief pitcher came in and gave up a tie game, or blew a lead, to get the Loss.

To get a no decision you either left the game tied. Or you left the game while your team was losing, and another pitcher for your team came in and got the win. Or you left the game while your team was winning, and another pitcher from your team came in and blew the lead, they get the loss, and you get a "No Decision".

A starting pitcher will goes his due innings however long they may be 4,5,6,7,8 innings and can leave with his team winning. If he leaves the game with no one on base for instance and any of the pitchers that follow him allows the other team to take the lead, that pitcher is deemed to get a "no decision" meaning his team did not keep the lead or retook the lead after he exited the game.

    a) When a starting pitcher fails to pitch 5 complete innings

The following assume the starting pitcher pitched at least 5 innings and any runners left on base that are his responsibility do not affect the results.....

    b) Starting pitcher leaves the game with a tie score

    c) Starting pitcher leaves with his team in the lead and they end up tying the score or losing the game

    d) Starting pitcher leaves with his team behind and they end up tying the score or winning the game.

it is when a team wins but the starting pitcher leaves the game when the winning team is either losing or tied. it is called a no-decision because the starting pitcher recieves neither the loss nor the win.

It is when the starting pitcher pitches at least 5 innings and either leaves with the score tied or his team ahead and the team blows the lead.
