Cheap,local and clean hotels in New Orleans?

Check out The Frenchmen on Frenchmen Street or The Lamothe House on the Esplanade

Both are very nice and quaint, located in historical houses and have this typical New Orleans atmosphere that you won't find at any chain hotel. Rooms start about $60 a night. They're not in the French Quarter, but you can easily walk there. Frenchmen Street also has great (jazz) bars and restaurants.

They often offer a surprise hotel, which is always close by or in the French Quarter. Most of the times it is a chain hotel, but when you go in a busy time, it can be worth checking out when all other places are either booked up or too expensive.

In the French Quarter check out Baronne Plaza, Sleep Inn, and Quality Inn. All are walking distance to Bourbon Street.

When I was in New Orleans, I stayed in sun suites. Its right near the airport. But there's another location in New Orleans as well. Its 64.99 or 69.99 a night, It depends on which you pick; 1 bed or 2 beds. It has a fridge, microwave & stove included. When you go on the site you can see a virtual tour of the room.

DUring a holiday weekend rates might be up a bit. But you might luck out with specials at certain locations. I always recommend Maison DuBois Bed and Breakfast. Generally their rates are about $120+ though but well worth it. Great pool, large suites, great location.

There are cheaper options but I think it worth it.

The Omni Royal Orleans is in the center of the FQ. You should be able to get rates lots betterr than $150/night in August (which is low season for NOLA).

I had good luck with Travelodge, in Metairie. $50.00 per night and due west of New Orleans on US 61. You know check with Days Inn, all the usual 1's.

try searching travelaxe. I see some good rates at hotels already mentioned.
