I've worked in the customer service field my entire working life, both frontline and phone. I appreciate the person's position calling me, and respect they need a pay check just like I do. I can decline their services without being rude and killing their spirit. I hear what they have to say, and decline, sharing my reasons, even letting them rebuttal, then kindly ask them to remove my number from their calling list.
Now...the ones that frustrate the dickens out of me are the same telemarketers calling 3-5x a day, while at work, and you decline their offer and state it is a business, and they rudely talk over you...oh no, not happening! I'm not rude, I simply take control of the phone call...firmly...LOL!
As far as your position, ougirl2, folks are venting, period. You already know this, girl, but they can't curse themselves out for not paying their bills on time causing them to have to put down deposits...so why not the nice lady assisting me with new service! LOL! People are sensitive....after reading some comments attacking you...WOW...I didn't know the electric company was so hated....I thought that was gas!
Don't let'em get to you, girl! People pick up tone, and if yours is calm and controlled, they will respect that....I've never know a human to argue alone...
Hmmm....I'm a certified massage therapist, and know how therapeutic and relaxing these sessions can be...massage, baby, massage!

huh? You represent the company you work for and when that person calls you and yells they are yelling because of a problem "you" must take seriously and solve. If you get all tied up in thinking he's yelling at you then your perspective is all wrong. No geezes allowed. Solve the problem like the professional you are (or supposed to be).
No, I'm not mean to telemarketers because I know they have a script and can't really answer my questions.
If a CSR feels like you do and can't or doesn't even try to solve a problem, sighs loudly or whatever I demand their supervisor and suggest they be fired.
If you are just an "in-between receptionist type person" then tell them that, and that you'd be happy to transfer them to the correct department.
Yeah, I ran into that too, the electric company is not people oriented, at least not here. When I got into my apartment they wanted me to pay 3 months worth of electric use as a deposit yet claimed it was only one month. I had to fuss with them and have them look up many years of prior service and good payment history before they would relent. Yeah, all they want is money and they don't really care how they get it, even though they lie and trick people.

I appreciate the job customer service reps, etc. do. Most of them are very patient with me and very knowledgeable of their job. Those annoying telemarketers that make "random" calls from a list are the ones that get me. I am not very tolerant of them. As soon as I realize who they are, I take charge of the conversation, say some very hard things (no profanity) but I can give them a tirade of insults that would make a sailor blush. Then I wish them a good day and hang up.

I would hate a telemarketing job where you have to stay with the script. Boring! Demeaning! Kohl's sounds a lot better to me but if you need the money go on back tomorrow and give it one more day. You've done well in the past so you should trust your judgment on this.

Don't take it personally. If you can't seperate the job from what people think of you, and how they treat you in real life, you should get another job. People tend to be nastier on the phone, because they can't see you, and you can't see them, making butts of themselves. I do hang up on telemarketers, or sometimes I pretend they have called just as I was about to commit suicide. I have registered on every no-call list I can think of, and they just keep on callin'. Good luck to you. I'm sorry people have been mean to you. Hot rock massage.

my electric company hit me w/ an other deposit last year
i have a 200 dollar one on it already....then w/out warning they stuck me w another 150 one.....
i didnt yell at the rep...but i let the supervisor have it
sorry girl......but electric companies r frustrating and u r absolutely powerless over what they do to u
telemarketers..i just politely tell then to remove me from their list...those r the secret words to say...once u say those magical words..they have to remove u...its the law
u can say dont call again
im not interested
if u call again i will report u
none of that will work

Only if they don't know what they are doing or talking about. I used to work as a telemarketer too so I know what its like.
Sometimes they put reps on the phone that aren't ready and they give out wrong information which frustrates me. If you do not know the answer to a question get someone to assist you that does (not you directly of course)...anyway, best of luck to ya! : )

Yes, sometimes...the first call I am very polite but not more than once. I am on the NO CALL list and telemarketers have no business calling me in the first place. I also report the second and more phone calls to the proper authorities. I am old and in constant pain so please leave me alone. They call it a NO CALL list for a reason!

Always nice, I don't want the people of Pakistan and India to judge Americans solely by our president.
Both in about 90 minutes after I work out--that would be lovely.
BTW, you do a great job!

No theres no need to be rude at all, with the calls from India i just say no thanks and may your god go with you, the last bit makes it final. If i phone you i will be polite as your doing a job and take the sh1t that has been made by others including me.
so no i am never nasty on the phone, firm yes.
