How often do you buy meat? Is frozen meat bad for you?

How often do you buy meat? Is frozen meat bad for you?

I buy meat on a weekly basis and I keep it in the fridge. However, due to changes that come up during the week the meat goes sometimes bad and turns a darker color. When it turns colors, I throw it away. This week my bf suggested that we just buy meat the day we are going to eat it (there’s a market on my way home, so it’s really not that big of a deal). Does anyone buy meat everyday? Is this better for you?

Get one of those vacuum devices-"seal a meal". It works quite well and saves a bunch over time. It keeps freezer burn off the meat and works great on other perishables like avocado(in the reefer) and cheese. I had 1/2 an avocado in the reefer for a week with no discoloration. We buy meat in bulk at a good savings, break it up into meal size portions and seal it up. I put it in the sink with a little warm water to thaw. Works great!

I don't buy meat that often, but I do purchase sliced ham about once or twice a month for making ham sandwiches. I mostly buy Turkey or Chicken which is poultry.

I do have meat on my Pizzas in the form of pepperoni, and I occasionally like a Double Cheeseburger from McDonald's or Double Decker Tacos from Taco Bell. For the most part, I don't purchase meat and cook any at home except for the Holidays when I expect to have company.

Didn't you ask this before? 1. You're not a vegetarian, you're a pescetarian. I don't want this to sound rude or anything, it is just this is a bit of an issue. You say you are a vegetarian, and that you eat fish. People remember that vegetarians eat fish. New vegetarian, who doesn't eat fish, comes to stay for dinner at the omnivore's house. They make fish for the vegetarian and it gets awkward. If you do want to call yourself a vegetarian, please just tell people that not all vegetarian eat fish when it comes up. 2. They are high in salt and pricey. If you don't mind some kidney damage way down the line with high blood pressure, and a dent your wallet, go ahead. Honestly, they aren't the worst thing so don't feel like it will kill you or anything. But high in salt. 3. Tofu is good to throw in soups, salads, and just about everything. Too much protein can be bad for you, so don't eat more than you need. 4. If you eat fish, that is plenty of protein there. But plants, particularly beans, grains, and nuts, have high protein. Almost everything has protein in it. So if you eat enough and get enough calories, you are almost ensured enough protein, even on a completely plant based diet.

I buy meat when it's on sale and freeze it. I grew up in a large family, so that always worked best to save money. Worked fine for us. Now in college it can keep down my bills. Frozen boneless chicken breasts are my best friend for a quick, healthy meal! So much you can do with it. Most meats freeze just fine, so go ahead and stock up... just make sure you'll actually use everything you buy. I keep mine for a couple months.

  • I 'typically' go in on a side of beef and venison that comes packaged as I request, and free range organic poultry locally, and stock up the freezer.

The other things like goose/cornish hens/rabbit on a as needed basis, and also a local place that sells things like naturally smoked bacon and ham etc, I buy that probably once every couple of months and freeze in usable portions.

Also cheaper to buy in larger quantities if one has the freezer space, and I'm a big sucker for shopping wisely!

Source(s): Longtime fanatic of organic (unmedicated as they call it now) meat

We only shop once a month due to pay schedules, and buy all of our meat at once. I section it into appropriate sized portions, pack it in freezerproof packaging, and freeze it. I then thaw it as needed - never once had an issue with it.

I buy meat all the time when it's on sale. When you get home freeze the serving size you require--Rather than losing expensive meat, it's easier to micro thaw

    Fresher is tastier.

I buy meat once a week, depending on what I plan to cook.

When it's on sale, I buy bulk and freeze it.
