do blind people dream in their sleep?

(you know how you visualise in your dream what happens?) do blind people dream?

I am hoping to find out soon, whoever gets the right answer wins 10 points.

Update:

if you say yes, please say how they can dream as they obviously cant visualise a house, etc and dream like most people can...

Update 2:

Im NOT talking about DAYDREAMING i said in their SLEEP!

Update 3:

but they cant feel things in their sleep, no?

Update 4:

but do they have a "mind's eye"?

Update 5:

but you dont have sensations in your dream? do you? you can only rarely feel sensations in your dream, so how can they dream in sensations?

Update 6:

V I asked my friend if he sees just blackness and he said no, its not blackness because blackness is a colour, and he can not see at all.

This was the first question I asked on Y?A a year ago and one of the answer I got back was from guy who works with the blind,,He said that those who were born blind tend to dream in touch, smell, and sound,,those that have gone blind still dream in colour pictures and those who have very limited sight dream in coloured shades a bit like squinting your eyes,,,

Well, it is hard to do, but yes. I dream. I am blind from birth. I use a second sight if you will to interact. I am a rare blind, Hemeralopic. I have almost no vision when exposed to light. I see using a sort of resolocation. As an object vibrates, it sends out what is called a resonation, which acts like a sort of metadata, and depending on resonation size, I get texture, shape, and colors. It has required eleven or so years of no sight at all, and then a really important discovery to do so. I have perfected the tactic. There go, I have had some visual dreams. I haven't been able to dream in some time, but it is possible.

Source(s): I am a Hemeralopic blind High school student. I have been blind since birth.

Yes. Blind people who have always been blind do dream but they dont see anything. A blind girl described a nightmare she had about a car crash, she said she felt a swerve and heard the crunch of glass breaking etc, a blind person who went blind after seeing can dream with images because they know what things look like.

Source(s): This Q is in a book called "Fix it Friday" compiled from the Ray D'arcy radio show.

Yes they can dream, but in different ways to non-blind people. Those who became blind at one point in their life dream as anyone else would because they have the memory of what they had previously seen. Those who were born blind however, do not see pictures. Instead, sounds, smells and taste are the senses in their dreams.

Its a very well known fact that blind people do indeed dream. This was demonstrated on the front page a month or so back when the answerer asked his blind friend if I find the question for you I'll be sure to post it.

If the person was blind at birth, they dream of blackness. They would only be able to sense things that they have sensed before——smell, taste, touch, and hearing.

If the person went blind some time after birth, they can dream of all sorts of stuff.

When you dream, your brain collects images, sounds, feelings, scents, and tastes that you have already sensed and composes them to make a story. If the person was blind at birth, the only thing he would definitly not have in his dream is sleep.

Same goes for a deaf person. If they were deaf at birth, they would be able to sense all but hearing; their dream would have no audio.

Even though a blind person can't 'see' the world like someone with sight, they still 'experience' the world. Just differently. I'm not blind, but when dreaming, I dream based on my experiences. A blind person would also have dreams, but they would be similarly equal to their experiences and interpretations of their surrounding world...

Yes, they dream the way they see. If you can't see anything, you only dream with voices. If you can only see a little light and some colour, that is what your dream will look like.

Of course they do. To blind people, sounds evoke imaginative 'pictures'. Describe a tree to a blind people and they will be able to 'see' it in their minds. When a blind person touches your face, he/she can get a mental image of your facial features. Hence, they dream while asleep.
