    Do Online Relationships Work

  • 1 decade ago

Two people I've met online I've now met offline. I was not in a relationship with either of them- only good friends.

My latest online buddy traveled over here from Sweden to attend prom. My best friend is his girlfriend- I actually introduced the two about 2 years ago.

The other online buddy lived but one state down.

And... hey. I say that an online relationship could really work!

I've been through 2 online relationships that didn't work out. I personally feel that the long distance didn't have anything to do with them not working out, though.

In those relationships, I was really happy. We had to work hard, and made an effort to talk online or on the phone almost every day.

What makes them work though is the idea that someday they'll become a real-life relationship. So, if it starts as an online relationship, be willing to eventually meet in person, even if you have to wait a year or more.

It's the anticipation of the relationship becoming more than just long-distance that keeps it going! :-)

  • I met my boyfriend of 6 months online nearly 7 years ago and met several times as friends during that time...He has since moved interstate and we keep a long distance relationship until I can afford to move..Its hard, but if you both work at it you can make it work.

My housemate has an internet relationship with a man in another country and are going to meet later this year. They are both very happy.

My mum met a man online and ended up moving to Canada where she is extremely happy for the first time in her life..

    Hope that helps! :)

Tricky Question. I have a female ffriend whom I met online 6 years ago. She lives in Rhode Island, and we speak on the phone daily. It's hard on me to not be with her. But when we are together about once a year or so,it's very special. Wr both love nascar,so when she hears something new she calls me right away.

  • Yeah. I have a crazy story.

I started talking to my fiance (which I now live with) almost 6 years ago now. We talked online for 3 years. It was kinda friendly thing, and then it grew bigger. We got cell phones and webcams. Finally after 3 years, we met for the first time. He was bringing his friend down here. I live in SC, he lived in OH. It was really snowy and icy so he called and told me he wasn't gonna be able to make it. I cried and went back to sleep...3 hours later he showed up at my door.

I looked terrible..no make up..in my pajamas...and I was so shocked. We spent awhile together then he went back. Then he visited a second time. He stayed the weekend.

Then finally he moved down here. And we've been living together ever since. For 3 years now. The only thing that sucked, is that we kinda skipped the datin part. It's cool, though I guess I feel like i've known him my whole life. It's weird though because his dog's name...was the name on the town I live in...haha

Only part that SUCKS, is that right now we are living with my mom because Jobs here SUCK (we live in a small town) and so it's too expensive to find a place. We're saving though and hopefully soon, we will have our own place!

Also, it sucks that he gets really home sick. But we're are veyr happy together and I'd say I got lucky. It doesn't work out for alot of people.

Haha...i feel like a bum sometimes :| but we're trying as hard as we can!

I went on a date once with someone I met online. It didn't go well. but it really wasn't the fault of the internet. It would have gone badly if we had met at a bar :)

I know 2 people know who have married people they met on the internet.

I would imagine the success rate is significantly lower than meeting people in real life. But I think if you are both completely honest (How will you really know if the other person is, though?) there is a good chance it will work, assuming you are compatible.
