What are your favorite Vegetarian/vegan books?

My book collection is getting old and I'd like to update it. A few of the books are probably older then some of you :-)

Update:

I'm interested in both cookbooks, and 'reading books', both fiction and nonfiction. Anything on the subject of vegetarian/vegan lifestyle.

Update 2:

There's really no best answer on a question like this so I'll just put it to a vote. I wish yahoo let people choose multiple best answers. Thank you all.

I'm a vegetarian and love reading cookbooks as well. There is a book that's informational, not a cookbook though you might find interesting. It's called, "Politically Incorrect Nutrition" by Michael Barbee. It's NOT vegetarian but it explains the dangers in some things Americans eat, for example aspartame, margarine, microwaved food, etc. VERY interesting, if a bit scary!

Hi, my top fave is Vegan by Tony Weston and Yvonne Bishop published by Hamlyn.

Venturesome Vegetarian Cooking by Hirsch and Hirsch published by Surrey Books http://www.surreybooks.com/ this has a lovely variety of recipes and the majority are vegan.

And one that is a really interesting read is, Vegan, The New Ethics of Eating by Erik Marcus(revised edition) published by McBooks Press.

None of these are that old but are not new! :) I also use the web for finding my recipes now but you can't beat having a good book! :)

I love 'Nutrition For Dummies', even though it is a non-academic level Nutrition book. Its has a section about the benefits of vegetarianism. (Although it is not a book about vegetarianism).

My only cookbook is 'Vegan with a Vengeance', although I would like to buy more.

    what about you ? :)

are you talking about cookbooks or reading books?

If cookbooks, my favorite is Vegan Planet by Robin Robertson. For desserts, The Joy of Vegan Baking is awesome (but definitely not all healthy...) I also like The Mediterranean Vegan Kitchen by Donna Klein.
