Headphones vs speakers, which do you prefer to listen to music from?

Is it always the same preference, or does it change?

Mine changes, there's certain things i prefer headphones for, and things i like speakers for

Homework: HAS to be speakers, I like to sing along while doing my homework, and I have to make sure I am not singing too loudly :p

Room Cleaning: Once again, speakers, who wants to carry an ipod around while cleaning their room? "not I" said the Squiks

Sleeping: Headphones, I have to have control over the music I listen to while i'm trying to sleep, because some songs give me nightmares :) and it's just better IMO

The Bus: Obviously headphones, first of all, people would hate me if i used speakers, and second of all, with headphones, i don't have to socialize as much AND! i can pick up on gossip because when i hear something, i pause my music, but leave my headphones in, so people think i can't hear (very sneaky :)]

Car: Depends on the other passengers' moods, and my level of tolerance for obnoxiousness on that particular day

Update:

Computer: I prefer speakers, because I also like to sing while on the computer, but people are usually home, so I resort to headphones

Update 2:

DIDDY KONG: Mine just fall out of my ears, i toss and turn a lot too, so they come out :)

I use headphones as a last resort if I'm not at home.

But, if I'm at home it almost ALWAYS has to be speakers because my ears aree... ehh... sad to admit... going very bad because of the loud music thru headphones for a couple years. Hahaha. So yeah that's why I choose speakers. And the thing with the bus and eavesdropping... SAME HEREE! Hahaha. I always press pause to try to listen to other people talking.

Headphones are great for anytime I want to block out other sounds, precisely control the volume if I'm trying read and want the music just loud enough that I can still concentrate, if I don't want to disturb others or, if I want to keep my choice of music private. Headphones also let you hear some of the sounds you might miss otherwise. But good speakers have a spatial richness and bass effects that no headphones can match; you can't hear any real reflected sound through headphones (though some sound processors can add imitations) and hearing the bass only in you ears just isn't the same as feeling the room shake. I'd miss out on a lot by limiting myself to either.

    Hey squiks!

Homework: Headphones, cause I can concentrate better. If I use speaker I get too caught up in singing that I won't do any work.

Cleaning room: Has to be speakers. I always get my headphones caught on stuff when I'm cleaning and they fall out.

Sleeping: Headphones for the same reason. Certain songs I just can't listen to when I'm going to sleep.

Car: Headphones, unless I'm driving. I would just use the speakers in the car all the time except my mom won't let me play anything with screaming in it, which is 95% of my music so I just use headphones.

On the computer: Speakers cause we have an amazing subwoofer so the bass is super rad. =)

Car: Speakers are my only choice. In New York, it is illegal to wear headphones or earphones that cover both ears because it makes it hard to hear emergency vehicles. But speakers are the best anyway because there is nothing like lowering the windows and cranking up the volume for an amazing song. I find myself doing that quite regularly (I actually got detention once for blasting my music in the school parking lot)

Home: Always listen with my headphones if I'm not alone because I don't like to disturb everyone else. Besides, my family doesn't like most of my music so they'd tell me to put on headphones anyway. However, if everyone is out, I blast my music, move the coffee table and do my strange version of hardcore dancing in the living room (shhh, don't tell Chiodos).

Working out: I'm at the gym or sports practice for a good portion of my day, so since I don't have speakers available, I use headphones. It sucks when running though because I've dropped my itouch a few times, and earphones have a tendency to fall out. I'd prefer speakers.

80% of the time it's headphones. I can just connect with music better with them. Only I am listening and not anybody else. Also my mind is extremely busy and I get distracted a lot. With speakers that is extremely easy to do. My perference however is a to a certain extent by activities.

Car: I believe that the car was made for people to sit and listen to music together. I despise speaking in the car (I usually don't speak outside of it anyways). Also I grew up with my father blasting his music in the car all the time. I guess it just stuck.

Getting ready: It's more convient for me to have speakers in this occassion. I dance a lot and run around my house. Usually by this time my family is busy outside of the house so the volume is turned to its max.

Computer: Headphones! There is nothing better then pulling in headphones to my computer's speaker. The first time I did it was when listening to a Sigur Ros perfeormance and realized that it is such a better listening expeirence for me.

Bike riding: Headphones. For two reasons. I don't have a bike stereo. AND! I have a feeling people would start to give my a lot of dirty looks if I ride past them blasting Suicide Silence :D

I also find that I enjoy speakers more during the day and headphones at night.

Mine change too. I do landscape and a lot of mowing so I have to use headphones to mow. But when I'm riding down the rode or people aren't around I love to use a speaker. Plus speakers are better for your ears

You're right, where I am matters.

Homework: Headphones, a really nice pair that tunes me out from everything else. I play the Animals album in its entirety, its perfect.

Sleeping: Speakers, I don't want headphones in my ears all night. I toss and turn and usually sleep on a side so it would just hurt my ear.

The Bus: Ditto to what you said

Car: Speakers, they get to hear what I hear. If they don't like it, tough luck, learn to like it.

  • Homework: Headphones

    Sleeping: Headphones

    Cleaning Room: Speakers

Car: Speakers, I don't mind listening to the old folks' tunes

    Computer: Speakers

I prefer speakers, but I can't play all of my music on my speakers because of my little sister, so I usually have my headphones in.
