What's the funniest baseball "observation" you've ever heard?
I was watching NESN the other day, and one of the reporters said, "You know, I think our starting pitchers are really stronger performers when they don't have the flu."
That cracked me up. That's definitely up there with one of the funniest "observations" I've heard.
Anybody else have any funny "observations" that they've heard from friends, on TV, on the radio, etc.?

I think I mentioned this story before but it's still one of my favorite Vin Scully lines:
The Dodgers were in Montreal and Vlad Guerrero was still a rookie. There was a drive that rattled around in the RF corner and the runner tried to turn it into a triple. Vlad picked up the ball near the foul pole and uncorked a throw that overshot 3B and landed about 15 rows up in the stands. It had to be 500' on the fly.
Vin Scully's call went like this: "Guerrero picks up the ball in right and FIRES to third..."
(There was a good 45 second pause while the runner trotted home on the overthrow)
"Well...." Scully said, finally, "..the kid's got a strong arm...."

Well, Philadelphia has gotta be the king of idiot broadcasters. With the addition of Gary Mathews to an already pain stakingly painful Chris Wheeler, I could go on for hours. Sarge's keys to game seem to crack me up. Most of the time its: Score more runs than the other team, or for the pitchers not to allow as many runs as the opposing team. One of my favorite insights was the know-it-all personality of Chris Wheeler during Spring Training this year. When Harry Kalas was remarking on how beautiful the Phillies's Bright House Networks field was, Chris Wheeler repsonded with: "They've got one better over in Arizona." Truly painful coming from a guy that's never picked up a bat in his life.

My funniest observation is when announcers of baseball games actually jinx players through their outbursts. For ex:
1) Buchholz is pitching a marvelous game, a no-hitter, who would have ever thought...and there's a base hit. Darn!!!
2) This guy rarely strikes out at the plate (Placido Polanco)...well fans Polanco was just called out looking at strike three.
Or...
3) Manny Ramirez is hot with the bases loaded, batting .444 w/ RISP...there's a drive, deep right field, caught at the wall. I thought that one was gone too.
You see these are just some examples of how Radio/TV announcers jinx a player by talking good about them, but the exact opposite happens in that at bat. RR

This came from the radio on Phils vs. Mets game. It might be reworded but it's close
" You know what, this home plate umpire better make right calls. I'm just sick of this." That might be not that funny but it's funny when he said it everytime Kendrick throws a strike but the ump ruled it a ball.
That came from the color commentary, he has to meditate and almost throwed up because of the umpire
The game Kendrick walked 7 batters.

This one is more towards football, but i remember last year when it was deep in the 4th quarter and the Dolphins and Bills where playing. I was listening to ESPN radio in my car and one of the radio host's said " Well Miami is leading 3-2 against the Bills in the bottom of the 7th inning" i thought that was hillarious.

at an Angels game on tv 3-5 years ago the reporters were looking at outfielder Adam Riggs and noticed something. They said "Hud, Check out Adam Riggs, he plays for the Angees....thats beautiful" .Apparently they mispelled Angels....that was interesting.

After a fly ball was hit deep to center field, it hit the top of the fence, and Hawk was confused. He said, "You can put it on the booooooard no?..... Yes! I will never forget the sound of his voice, it was so funny. He sounded like a confused little kid.

Ryan Dempster after the Cubs scored 19 runs in support of a win said...." You give me 19 runs every time out and I will never lose a game." and he said it with a straight face....I really like his sense of humor.

"Kennedy...is batting 1.000 when the sun is shining in Busch Stadium on April 25, 2008." - after one at -bat.
"Dodger fans are clad in Dodger red tonight." - Vin Scully, during a spring training game in a Cardinal-partisan crowd at the Dodgertown
"Hey, if we get some more runners on-base, these guys are gonna have peanut butter and jelly running out the sides of their mouths." - Mike Shannon, I have no idea what that means but I think he was drunk when he said it as I often wondered when listening to him

Anything that comes out of the mouths of either Tim McCarver or Joe Buck. It's not really all that funny; just dumb.
