budgie question(s)?
I am interested in buying two budgies. I want to know what genders i should get. I kind of want a male and a female but I dont want them to mate. How often does mating happen? Is there any way to prevent it?
Also before I get these birds I was wondering if anyone knew how many days they can be left alone at home if you go on vacation or something? At how many days do you need to get a bird-sitter? For instance, could you go away for a whole weekend without someone caring for the budgie?

2 pet budgies will be happier than one on its own if your household is mostly at work not home. If you don't want them to breed no problem, just don't give them a nest-box. Eggs are very rarely layed without a nest. Just feed eggs to your cat or dog as eggs are only potential life like seeds.
Get either 2 males or 1male & 1female.
2males 0r a boy/ girl will preen & feed each other but 2 girls will mostly fight.
The girls have brown nostrols aboye beak &the boys are either blue or pinkish blue nostrols. Depending on what their body colour is.
A weekend away is no problem but as another writer wrote, you should either get a feeder friend in plus collect mail or take cage over to freinds house with food & written care instructions.
Enjoy your budgies& thanks for caring & asking for advice.

Get a male and female, sometimes the female will lay eggs, but they will not hatch if you don't have a breeding box. I had my pair for 7 years before she started laying eggs. You can leave them for a weekend, as long as they have plenty of food and water.
