FLEAS. what is the best thing to get fleas off my dog.?
my dog always has really bad fleas. i gave him another bath wednesday and his fleas are really bad again. i used shampoo to get ri of them and it said it should last a week. he only stays flealess for around 2 days. what works best? i need to find something to help cuz my dog has a disease that makes him loose hair and these flease dont help that any. also my last dog would always get ticks but not fleas so whats the difference since my dog now rarely gets them. my dog is an inside dog and all of these fleas are killing(irritating) us and him. so what product work best and how long do they usually work? does breed matter?http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti... check out their pics. rocky is my current dog. i dont have any recent pics but i will soon. Thunder is my old dog.
my dog is a bulldog mix. we think he has dalmation in him. the myspace link should work even if you dont have an account. his disease was diagnosed by the vet. it was inherited by his parents. it is caused by some type of mites. luckily he has not started loosing his hair since hewont be a year old for like 2 months. my dog is white and when i use things that you just leave on it turns his fur that color for a while. is it safe to give him a bath then use the stuff u put on him like frontline or advantic. sergeants skip-flea and tick shampoo is what i wash him with.

They are so cute I have found in the past that Frontline Plus doesnt work for my dogs they are all white and when I put it on my dog she turned completely pink and she became warm she was feverish so besides the allergic reaction the fleas didnt die either so I switched to Sintenel you can get it at your vets office it kills fleas when they bite your dog and it also keeps the adults from laying eggs its a very small pill that works in the dogs bloodstream and its a heartworm preventive as well the cost depends on the weight of the dogs I can get a year supply for $120 or 6 months supply thats between $60 and $70 and they have single doses if you dont want to buy the whole package I also use Adams shampoo because it has menthol in it that kills the fleas its a flea and tick shampoo! If you follow these steps you will see results within a week or two to me it seemed right away and I could tell it was working because my dogs coat is white she was getting red spots from scratching after I gave her the Sentinel pill and took her a bath in Adams her coat started to look healthy that same week.

Advantage Flea Treatment is the absolute tops - tried all the rest and this one is clearly the very best! You get four tubes in one box, you apply one whole tube to between the dogs shoulders and - thats it!!! No sprays, no powders, no nothing - just the tube! Mind you, with the problem you have you'll need a can of StayKill to spray your carpets and soft furnishings, ie your sofa's and pet beds, plus your curtains! Use the StayKill all along the skirting boards in every room then get out of that room for at least an hour with all doors and windows locked - its more effective that way. I've used both in the past and can recommend them very highly - now i only have to use the Advantage as a yearly precaution, haven't used the StayKill since the first time! Best of luck to you. PS: - seeing as the flea infestation is really bad you need to let a vet have a look at your dog, plus other pets in the house because excessive flea's cause blood disorders which can kill!!! Vets first and ask him / her for the Advantage as it can only be bought from a vet - your dog will need a heart and lung test before its prescribed!

I prefer to do capstar. It's safe enough to give your doggie once every day along with frontline.. or whatever you decide to give him. It'll kill the fleas on your pooch for 24 hours.
Cleaning your house well has a lot to do with getting rid of the fleas. It once took me over 5 months of non stop cleaning, vacuuming, and spraying my house every day.
Good luck
Hope that helps

I work at a grooming parlor and we have tons of dogs come in covered with fleas. We do carry flea dip shampoo, but dawn dish soap works a lot better. We bathe the dogs mostly with dawn just because it cuts the grease on them better.
So, if you can't afford capstar (which by the way is cheaper if you buy in bulk from 1800PetMeds.com) dawn dish soap will work wonders if you let your poochie sit in it for a while. However, it still will cost you a pretty penny to clean your house. You will need flea spray (something to kill them and keep them away) and it's very time consuming and hard work.
Good luck!!

You need to get Frontline and use as directed. Also you need to bomb your house. If you have a yard you will have the fleas in your Yard also, killing them in your yard is a must or you will never rid them of your dogs or home. Go to the feed store and they will have the stuff for your yard, and wal-mart will have the bombs for your home, the vet or feed store will have the Frontline. But if they have fleas that bad they probably have the worms from them also. I'd go get a worm check for them from the vet. A loving pitbull breeder of 10 yrs.

What breed is it? (I don't have myspace) Use flea drops. Follow the directions somewhere on the back or on the leaflet (I know there's a leaflet because it's for the medication). I suggest you clean you're home while you're at it. And the disease you're dog has is just a minor skin irritation. All he's got are just mites. Mites come from things like cats, dust, and dirty areas. Hope this helps!

Try cleaning your house! These feas are coming from somewhere and could be getting on you and your family. You could get an exterminator also. A way to get a flea/tick off your dog is to light a match, blow it out, and touch it to the flea/tick on your dog and it should come off.

on my dog that died a few years ago, everyone told us Dawn dish soap killed them right away. and they were right! i cant tell you how many dead fleas i saw go down the drain! it didnt hurt my dog either. flea collars didnt work for her. so we used that, and we asked the vet he said it should be fine as long as her fur wasnt fallong out, she was uncomfortable (whining), or didnt get sick, it should be fine. and she never did any of those. her eyes never watered and she showed no signs of discomfort so we used that since nothing else worked.

Frontline - hands down.
Baths and all these other potions, IMO, are a waste of time. Just go for the good stuff and get rid of them for good.
