blue hair dye?
I have long naturally medium-blonde hair, and I'd like to put some blue in it. I was planning on dyeing all of my hair a lighter blonde (but not quite platinum or anything) and adding blue to the longest bottom layer. Will it really be necessary to bleach it out, or would a lighter blonde all over prior to the blue suffice?

No, Since your hair is already blond, Their won't be any need for bleaching...Now if your hair was dark, and you just put the blue in it, It wouldn't show...So that's when you usually bleach your hair.

I think you can go three shades lighter than your hair before you have to use bleach. Be really sure that you want the blue before you do it, though. I have heard that you can't really get those bold colors out, even it you try to bleach them or put a darker color over them. It will just become a lighter or darker blue. It basically just has to grow out.

not really, since in 4 weeks all that blue will be completely washed out.. IF not sooner.
i am a frequent user of semi dyes... and bleaching help's extend the life of the color.. and helps the color look good when it fades.
just wash your hair regularly.. you'll see the blue come out with each washing.
