Why does Barry Bonds not have a job right now?

first of all, im not a fan...so save the Barry bashing for someone who cares. intelligent and informative answers only, please.

is it the scandal that keeps teams away? is it the fact that he is old and cant run anymore?

he is the home run king*...sure he cant run, but surely someone will take a chance on signing him as a designated hitter, right? why not?

Update:

some of you apparantly didnt get the memo that i dont really care enough about barry to hear yall bash him. INTELLIGENT, INFORMATIVE answers

    Barry is too much trouble

true he is the home run king, but he is a pest in the clubhouse, and a lot of teams dont want to ruin their team chemistry, Bonds was like a dark cloud hanging over the Giants, he was the 800 lb gorilla, and a lot of teams that youd think would want him dont want to mess with their younger players development by having such an ego-centric player on their team

then theres also the fact that he just cant cut it in the field anymore, that cuts out all the NL teams

and the money hes going to want is probably more than he warrants at his age

chances are eventually somebody in need of a big bopper will go after, probably the Yankees, Tigers or M's

Bonds is the poster child for the steroid era in baseball. At 45 years of age his legs are gone and all he can do is DH for an AL team, and he would not be able to offer enough in return to offset the downside any team would have to put up with. Towards the end of the season some contending AL team in the need of some power in the middle of the lineup might take a chance on him but I would put his changes at connecting with a team at slim to none.

Its the steriod scandal and owners being scared of what there fans might think of him joining there team. But the truth is he can help any ball club. We all saw what trouble left hand hitters had at at&t park last yr. during the derby which show how talented he is and he plain just gets on base and Giants fans loved him because he did that for there team and if he was doing it for your team you would throw out all your Barry bashing thoughts. Weather he did it with the help of steriods the guy is still the greatest hitter of all time if they give him a oppurtunity he's gonna get to 3,000 hits. Im sure if he ended the cubs 100 yr drought theyd build him a statue.

You would think he could find a job, had an ok season last year. But even a team like the Royals with ok pitching no offense and no DH do not give him a job. Too bad, bet he wanted that 3000 hit level

he is only able to DH right now because of his age and weight and just plain ole isn't a good fielder anymore. He will get a job in the American League around the All-star break. He was also asking for too much money and let's face it....the man has as much baggage as Clemens and teams usually don't want the distraction

  • 1 decade ago

Well, you're going to have to tie up a lot of money in a player that is aging and in legal trouble. He also hasn't been the same hitter since he got hurt in 2005. A lot of it comes down to that. Fans don't care for him either.

Because he is a big, fat, cheating steroid head who should have been banned from the league a long time ago! Did I mention that he is probably the biggest jerk in team sports history?

y doesnt roger clemens have a job either? cuz hes a idiot. teams r waiting til august to sign bonds to make a playoff push. he is still one of the best hitters in the game and will be for the next 23 years

My guess is that no team wants to deal with Barry's baggage. It would draw a ton of (negative?) attention to whatever team he went to and it would be a major distraction to them. Right now, I don't think any team wants to deal with that.
