Real time: Spyware Terminator (turn off web security guard): http://www.spywareterminator.com/

Passive immunisation: Spybot: http://www.safer-networking.org/

Scanning: Superantispyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/

They're all brilliant in their own ways, and don't conflict.

None is "best", what you like or dislike is little based on actual performance. However, while looking for something "best" and "free", you expose yourself to a galore of scams.

i like spybot,but Ad-aware finds stuff after i use it,so get and run both.
