Should the Olympics be cancelled & all the money go to helping Myanmar [Burma]?

Should all the billions of dollars & pounds & personnel, now be stopped & go to helping the people of Burma & other suffering humans.

Sport or practical help.

What do you think?

Update:

I am still annoyed about China & Tibet, & have empathy for all people suffering.

Disaster relief would bring the world closer together than the Olympics, in my opinion.

I think politics should be left out of the Olympics, period.

There is always going to be political turmoil somewhere. What about those 100's of athletes that have trained their whole lives for this? Who's fighting for them?

The money would be better spent on aid and resources, but I think the best thing to do would be to carry on with the games. All the money for the games will more than likely have been spent anyway, and there will be aid organisations and charities that can fund the help and support of the Burmese people.

Red Cross/UN Humanitarian Aids and if possible Kuwait's $500 million (giving to Katrina victims] should also pledge their money to help will be enough and doesn't need for Olympics to be canceled.

To those who criticize Burmese junta as oppressive you are forgetting the thousands of Burmese who has no home and no shelter and no drinking water and no medicine and has absolutely nothing.

If people can help America for Katrina without thinking their oppressiveness in Iraq; they shall care about the Burmese people.

The money does not need to be given to junta but the Humanitarian Aids.

NO. Lets start with the fact that Burma isn't very interested in receiving aid. After that, what good would cancelling the Olympics actually do? It's not like the whole world is now bankrupt and unable to devote funds to other things.

I am not sure what I think but I do disagree that you make it seem as though the Olympics is just a sporting event. It is a unifying tournament that has brings countries together.

    Absolutely not.

It's a question who has the worse human rights record - Myanmar or China. You must be out of your mind.

The Olympics will collapse under their own weight. The truly are passe. Every time they come up there is some kind of controversy. We don't need them.

No, not Burma - i'm sorry but until those people learn to stand up for themselves and get rid of their despotic government then why should anyone help them? You have to request permission to give aid? How stupid!

Why don't we stop Hollywood making movies and send that money to starving people everywhere? Everything has its place, and there are plenty of people who will donate to this cause, although considering the government it's going to I doubt that much will get through to the suffering people.

Or we could use the money on our own appalling country.

Give it to the needy in our own country.

Make Britain, Great Britain, once again, before others are helped.

While a nice thought, totally unrealistic.
