If your pantry is bare it will be harder but look at what is on sale. Consider it 3 dollars a day so limit yourself to 4 oz of cheap meat, one large starch serving like a baked potato and a can of veggies like green beans. Skip breakfast and have ramen for lunch then have a better dinner or have your better meal midday and a snack at night like ramen or popcorn if you have some.
I got carrots tonight 2 pounds for $1 they make a good snack and eggs 6.99 a 5 dozen pack they could be your protein as scrambled or omelets. Hot dogs were 88 cents for 8 so two a day is cheap meat.

Chicken
5lb bag of patatoes
hamburger
spaghetti (makes great for left overs if you use a little extra sauce)
Eggs
Cereal
Milk
Oatmeal
Bread
Another cheap ideas that would be good left overs would be
1/2 bag of egg noodles
2 cans cream of mushroom soup
1 can tuna
Cook the noodles then drain them. Put cream of mushroom soup on top (do not add water or milk) drain tuna and mix it in.
Should give you enough for around 3 or 4 meals if its just yourself.
Biggest tip I can give is don't go for name brand stuff. The less you spend on each item the more money you will have to buy more food.

Check out the grocery ads and see whats on sale. Plan on soups and stews which use cheaper cuts and less meat -- they go much further.
Pasta (not just spagetti) is cheap and you can add a little of this and that to make completely different dishes.
Dried beans are very cheap and you can get a big pot of soup.
Milk and eggs are pretty expensive (at least where I live). You may want to leave those off your list. Same for cereal -- unless it's on sale cheap.

First of all, forget meat. It's too expensive. Use eggs or legumes instead. They are cheaper and are full of protein.
I suggest you get a few packs of some cheap pasta, a block of cheese, some tinned salmon, and some frozen vegies, and make a pasta bake. You can then freeze it in portions, making meals for the rest of the week.
To save more money, make a whole loaf of bread into sandwiches, wrap them in clingfilm, and freeze them. That's what I take for lunch. It doesn't cost much.

try dollar stores: they usually stock a decent selection of food. it's a cheap place to get a few snack foods at least-no need to torture yourself! Go generic whenever you can, but there are just some things that generic SUCK, like peanut butter(the walmart brand is ok) and toilet paper. If it's just you, a jar of spaghetti sauce can be 2 meals. To ease grocery bills in the future, take advantage of free samples of stuff like soap, shampoo, and toothpastes. And check the sale papers and use coupons too. (and save your leftovers!)

Ok, any of these items, not all together though; here it is:
-frozen bag of veggies, 2X
-milk, liter or gallon
-water liter or gallon
-eggs
-bread loaf
-cutlets (go for lg. amt. to last you; you can cut up and toss with meal or slice up into sandwich)
-a piece of fruit (too many will rot if you're not home enough)
-vegetable oil or butter for cooking
-box of cereal ONLY for breakfast (no snacking)
-can of tuna
-raw potatos
-box of rice
-2 cans of bean or bag of beans
-crackers (you can butter them!)
-raw spinach or head of broccoli
This is guaranteed to last you one week though, depending on where you live in the country (I live in ny so it reflects NY prices).
Buy toilet paper, soap and any other toiletries at 99cent store only!
See if you can take a $20.00 advance from generous boss or buddy who owes you a favor in the meantime.
