Why is it that when you get a question deleted you lose 9 points instead of gaining back the 5?

Its YA's way of punishment...

I don't know, and I had not noticed, but if it is true I am very irritated.
I recently heard that questions can be deleted by achieving a critical mass of complaints, which means that a determined group of ne'er-do-wells could delete all your questions, and yahoo would punish you 9 points for each.
I don't know if any of these comments are true, but at this point I'd like to see someone from yahoo weigh in on this question, so I'll answer your question with another 2 questions to yahoo:
Yahoo Answers:
Can you explain why it appears you permit other users to delete questions without audit, and why it appears you dock 9 points for a deleted question?
Can you explain to the entire community why the evidence suggests that you would permit users to manipulate the points of another in this way?

As an answerer, I have found it terribly annoying when I type up one of my exhaustively-researched answers, but get a "this question has been removed" message. This means that all of my hard work has gone to waste, not to mention the time I could have spent answering other questions. Still, I think a 9-point penalty is a bit severe, especially if you realize there was another question similar to yours.
Namaste.

You have angered the mighty Yamster, and instead of destroying you in a firey ball of fury, (Someone might notice you're missing) he keeps your points instead.
