Need to update my kitchen cabinets?
They are stained a dark color, and have a routered line/groove engraved in them for decoration. My house is 30 years old and they look 30 years old. What is an inexpensive way I can update them without having to replace all of the cabinets or just paint them? I have a gray with black granite countertops, and a stainless steel backsplash. I have lots of cabinets and countertops, and can't spend a fortune updating these.

If it were me, I would sand them down as mentioned already if they are made out of solid wood and stain them. OR I would replace the cabinet doors (not the cabinets themselves) with a new and updated door. It is much cheaper than replacing the entire cabinets and can give you the modern and updated feel to match the countertops and stainless backsplash you already have. An example would be to sand down the cabinets themselves if they are solid wood. And choose the cabinet doors that best match your motif. Then paint the cabinets to match your new cabinet doors. I would probably choose a cabinet that has a frosted translucent window, framed in black or a deep mahogany stain for your kitchen.

Consider looking into using automotive paint. I've been seeing this a lot in home decorating magazines. If you use the auto paint glaze after you've painted, they come out looking almost like high-gloss metal (think Snap-on tool boxes in those high-tech garages). Or, consider taking all the doors off, sanding and painting (or staining if you so choose - perhaps a very light color to complement your dark cabinets and stainless steel) the frames inside and out. Leaving the doors off the upper cabinets gives it an open, updated feel.

they could be painted. i've got many times considered this completed on the abode and backyard exhibits, and that they many times paint them out in white and upload new hardware. in case you're relatively available and artsy fartsy, you should upload some raised, framed panels featuring fabric or wallpaper, and so on, to the cabinet doorways. this is my information that cabinets could properly be re-laminated, yet this could properly be a role for the expert or for somebody who's experienced in selfmade initiatives. additionally, new doorways ought to probable be further to the prevailing cabinetry. New fronts must be further to the doorways, and that's talked approximately as re-dealing with. those varieties of initiatives could be on the expensive area. From what you have pronounced, i think of your maximum suitable guess could be new paint and new hardware. there are lots of of on line components that can assist you. you're able to attempt google searches mutually with Updating previous cabinets, Kitchen Makeovers, and so on. and discover only the belief you're finding for. solid luck.

What kind of wood are the cabinets made of? If they are a good hard wood then they can be sanded down to bare wood and re-finished they way you want them. I just re-finished our cabinets and they look great.
