worried about my canary?

hey all, we are first time bird owers, and bought me a bird on sunday, we bought the new cage, stand, toys etc. My bird loves to eat, and i give him(well i think its a male) fresh greens, and fresh seed everyday, but i have not seen him drink yet, he has a water dish, which is identical to his food dish, he will sit on his food dish and eat, but i have not seen him go near his water, I change it everyday, i do see things in it when i change it, but i dont know if its just from when he throws his food around when he is trying to find the fresh seed at the end of the day, or from when he is actually drinking it. Can someone help.. thanks

Update:

iv also put a cuttlebone in there, and he hasnt even gone near that either.. any reasons for that, also is it normal for him to get angry at himself in the mirror? lol

The bird is drinking. They don't drink a lot, just continue as you are doing there.

Greens are a good start! There are many foods that are safe and good for them to eat. There are lists on my site below.

Cuttlebone is a calcium source. Many males won't touch it, but hens will go nuts with it right before they lay eggs. Keep it in there until you are sure you have a male canary.

All birds throw their seed/pellets. They search through, finding favorites and make a huge mess in the process, it is part of being a bird owner. You can always feed a smaller ammount and change it in the afternoon.

Sounds like shes used to eating crappy food! I guess they didn't tell you to but the same food & water dishes that they were using in the pet store and then switch in a few weeks. Cuttlebone is a waist of money a lot of birds/parrots dont like it or use it, except to poop on.They probably didnt sell you the food the birds been eating at their store, which is always crappy. Thats why its tossin out seed in its venture for being on a seed only diet. Give it applesauce as a addition to the seed in a different bowl. Its ok to put Pedialyte Flavored into their water

I got my first bird last year, and still have her and on the first day that happened to. I would watch her for the whole time, but then I tried to leave her alone and she started to eat and drink. Try to leave him alone and see if he will drink.

Mabe he drinks less than he eats and only drinks when you're not there. He probably is a bit nervous around you and won't drink when you're there. Put a video camera next to his cage and record what he's doing. This might work.

they usually drink when they first wake....you need to cover the cage at night....when you uncover it he should drink water almost right away...he sounds normal..he won't touch the cutter bone right away and ...the mirror ..he thinks it's another bird trying to take his stuff..he don't know he sees himself.

If he's acting fine and still alive, then he's definitely drinking, just not when you're looking.
