My Dr. started me on Lexapro and it seems to make me sleepy?

Has anyone else had this problem? I'm going to start taking it in the evening, as this is only on the half dose, I start the full dose next week. Also she has me on it with Abilify anyone on these two together?

A lot of people get sleepy until their bodies adjust to the medications. After your body gets used to them you won't be as sleepy. In the meantime take them at night and you might want to go to bed a little earlier than usual.

most antidepressants will make you sleepy. I don't know why but all the one's I've taken have. This should only last from a few days to maybe a week and a half....for some people longer. But it should go away.

Funny...when I first got help they put me on Lexapro and Abilify. It was a while ago...so I don't remember much about the lexapro...but the abilify made me SUPER suicidal.

I would suggest you keep a diary of all the side effects you notice and if any scare you or seem like they should be gone talk to your doctor.

    Good Luck.

I took mine at night in the beginning. I had problems sleeping, then was sleepy all day. 2 weeks ago, I started taking it in the morning. I've been on it for about 5 weeks and it has worked miracles for me. I do get a sleepy an hour or two earlier than usual, but now i have no problems sleeping. you'll see which works for you. I'm on Xanax too, not abilify.

I've been taking Lexapro for about a year and a half, and it did make me drowsy. I was taking 20mg pills, and the doctor dropped me down to 10mg pills. That still worked - very well - and I didn't have the drowsiness I had with the 20mg pills. It does take Lexapro about six weeks to get up to "full strength", and that may help with the drowsiness - give it a chance and see if things are better after that.

When you get off the Lexapro, you do need to wean off it slowly. Get down to the 5mg pills (the smallest they make) and take that for a couple weeks, then cut them in half (get a pill cutter) and take the half-pills for a couple weeks, then take the half-pills every other day for a week or so - and then stop. That will help a lot with any potential withdrawal problems.

Best of luck to you!! Paul.
