Has anyone ever used rice flour in a recipe?

I'm trying to cook a little healthier and was wondering is rice flour a good sub for regular flour in recipes? Also, is it healthier, how does it taste and has any one used it to ever fry chicken ( the last part was kinda my mom's quesion)?

Update:

Ok, so is wheat flour better for cooking and my mom still wants to know can you fry with it?

My best chicken wing recipe is made with rice flour and its baked. It goes super crispy and there's less fat than frying. Mix the rice flour with a good amount of curry powder (1:8 ratio curry to flour - I use S&B japanese curry powder) garlic powder, onion powder, lots of salt, pepper and a pinch of chilli powder. Mix it all up and shake the raw wings in it. Place them on a rack over a baking sheet lined with foil (easy clean up) and spray them liberally with spray oil. Place them in a hot oven until crispy. You would not believe how good this comes out!

Unless you are unable to eat wheat for some reason, there is no reason to substitute rice flour. It is not a good substitute for wheat flour. White rice flour is about as refined as any flour can be, and brown rice flour is coarse and gritty.

One of the reasons people use Rice Flour is because they are allergic to gluten. If you want healthier - use whole wheat flour.

I have not fried with rice flour...i think i tried it once before ...can't remember exactly what it tasted like - but i never did it again.

I have fried chicken strips with corn starch batter and they are good if you season the corn starch.

IN our society we just eat too much wheat (regular flour)

Fried this fried that, breads at almost every meal, and kids -are fed goldfish, cheerios, cookies and crackers constantly. Our bodies revolt in stange ways....

Over time we have changed wheat into this "Super gluten producing" crop of wheat in our industrialized society ....This was done by crosbreeding...different kinds of wheat so the new crop will make a more "sitcky glue like " component called gluten so breads won't fall apart (stronger glue/gluten = less crumbley bread).

But as a by product of this "super gluten" (or more glue'ey texture) it sticks to our insides (specifically our villi in our intestines) and can make us unhealthy.

Our society is built on what's easy not what's healthy.

If you want easy - regular flour is it.

If you want healty - It's hard to find.

But only relating to a substitute for regular flour. Search for gluten free recipes. There are plenty because gluten intollerances are on the rise.

And I have had success with these products. http://www.pamelasproducts.com/

MOst grocery stores carry them. I use their gluten free bread mixes and pancake mixes to make everything from pie crusts to batterfor frying, to pancakes to donuts....

In relation to regular flour - they aren't cheap...but they are as easy as I have found for a substitute to regular flour.

There are many kinds of flours (non wheat ones) ... and the best foods are usually made with a mixture of those flours...it's hard to get right on your own.

But if healthy is the goal most will reccomend not to fry foods.

Not to hijack you post...but if you want an intersting read - more about flour/wheat and some history behind it...see this website http://www.dogtorj.com/ and click on the left hand side The Answer...for an intersting article on declining health in our society.
