How do you say "carpool" in Spanish. I'm pretty sure it isn't "picina de automoviles."

Update:

The sentence would be something like: My friend and I carpool to work.

If it isn't possible, just let me know. Since carpool is somewhat idiomatic, I'd like to know if it has a Spanish equivalent. I'm pretty fluent in Spanish, so no other linguistic explanations are necessary. Thanks.

"Pool" is piscina or alberca, but wouldn't be useful in this context.

In Mexico a carpool is "la ronda" and it's mostly used to take and pick up children from school, not to go to work. "Me toca la ronda esta semana" is what a soccer mom would say if it is her turn to do the carpooling this week.

Yes, sometimes it is difficult to translate english into spanish (or other languages) because english vocabulary is extremely rich, I mean you have a word to describe virtually anything, while in other languages you have to explain those concepts ...or adopt an english word into your vocabulary.

Ok, about the car pool there is not such a word in spanish, so if you need to translate that into spanish you will have to explain it, this expressions could be useful:

Comparto (mi) coche con otras (dos/tres) personas

I share a (my) car with (2/3) other people.

Esta semana me toca a mi llevar el coche

This week it is my turn to drive the car.

    Hope this helps

PS: about what the first guy answered, a "Ronda" literally Round in english, is a word that can do to explain the concept only when the other people know what you are talking about, I mean Ronda can mean a lot of things, you could use the word Ronda to say that you pay the drinks for your friends at the bar (a round of drinks).

I do not speak Spanish, but let me explain what exactly a carpool is. A carpool is a group of people riding in the same automobile. They might be all going to work, they might be going to school, they might be going to the mall, etc. Or they might all be headed in the same general direction with different purposes in mind once they get where they're going. I would guess that you're looking for a conversational way to describe this type of situation.

He meant your Spanish is pretty good. What's not to understand? You spoke Spanish well. Not perfectly, since it was only "pretty good," but certainly well enough to receive his compliment.
