For custom American V-Twin enthusiasts...Should I rebuild it?
I can't believe 10 years after being stolen...a trooper found it yesterday (almost 1000 miles away from where I live). These are the pics he e-mailed. Not sure what all is missing besides the obvious, and I still have to work out buying it back from the insurance co. The trooper told me the paint had been roughed up a little, but overall didn't look too bad. It had a shovel w/ a 4 spd. before.
What do you think? What is it worth in this condition? Should I try to get it back and rebuild it? If so, what motor & tranny should I use in it? Keep in mind, if I do this, it will have a salvage title so I don't want to spend too much on it, for value purposes...not that I would ever want to sell it, just in case.
yeah, sorry about the pics. can't figure out how to make them bigger. (where have I had this problem before?) it's a paughco frame..fxr or fxdwg very close in same size.
Andy...i'll give ya my address to ship that spare motor!

its not an fxr frame they don't have a seat post.
a salvage title could be a problem in some states, better check in yours.
a complete ready to run engine around $3600 & up(ultima 100")
6 speed transmission $ 800 on sale
complete primary drive $800 " "
oil tank $150 to$250
wires,hoses & cables $150
cant tell if the rear master cyl & shifter is still there $350 & up
paint ???$500??
all these prices are for items that were on sale fliers I got last year from jirehcycles.
I would leave it alone unless you're willing to spend 7 grand & 2 or 3 hundred hours on it.
if its got some sentimental value, offer them $500 for it & spend a couple of years picking up parts at swap meets.

Pretty rough call with no engine or trans and who knows what else esp with a salvage title going to pick it up Ect......
?? $1,200 ?? Best bet would be find a wreck with a good title and build it from there, you would tie up mega bucks going with that the way it is
being nosey but where is it?

You already got your insurance money. Hopefully you've gotten another bike since then. Let the "old dog" sleep where it is. Most insurance companies won't insure a salvage title for more than basic liability anyway. You can buy a complete bike cheaper than you could repair that one.

They can't want much for a bunch of parts. I'd buy it back & start looking on e-bay & hitting swap meets. Like Crash sez It depends on how much money you want to spend.
