What causes dizziness and shakiness?

I have been tested for diabetes and that came back negative. I don't drink coffee. I get the dizziness and shakiness after I eat and when I'm at school. What conditions cause people to have dizziness and shakiness? Is it a serious health problem that I should talk to my doctor about?

This can be caused by different things. If it happens briefly after standing up, it could be a brief drop in blood pressure that reduces temporarily oxygen to the brain....it usually resolves rapidly, but occasionally, it can feel like you are going to pass out.

It can also be caused by a drop in blood sugar and is the most likely cause of what you are describing. It is called hypoglycemia. It occurs in girls more often as part of the menstrual cycle hormones in the week before their period. It is worsened by eating simple sugars and sweets because this becomes a sugar load in your blood stream that uses up all the insulin quickly, causing a sudden drop as a result. This leaves too little sugar for energy and hence the shakiness and dizziness. The treatment for this is never eat large quantities of sugar/sweets and always eat complex carbohydrates and proteins (no more sodas/energy drinks......binges on candy...) and eating more frequent small snacks(granola or other complex food) through out the day can make all the difference.

If this doesn't help, you should talk to your doctor and he should do more testing.....blood counts to be sure you aren't anemic, and a glucose tolerance test (takes a few hours and involves drinking some yucky tasting fluids with multiple blood sugar testing).

    Hope this helps!

Dehydration and low blood sugar possibly. Do you eat well, drink your 8 glasses of water daily and take vitamins? Try this! If it only occurs at school and no where else it could be psychological... which would suggest that you talk to a professional (dr., psychologist, psychiatrist, etc.) Do try taking good care of your body too. Don't just eat junk foods or sugary stuff and drink lots of fluids. :-) (little or no caffeine or energy drinks too.)

    Could be diabetes.

That sounds like blood sugar levels.

But thats the most serious thing it could be.

Go to the doctors and get a blood test and that will give you the answer.
