on average reservations are the poorest places in America, after a media nano-moment and a couple platitudes. they are again forgotten 70% of the profits from the Casino's go to the managment companies run by rich Vegas corporations but most people are ignorant and so think all Tribes are rich and drunk, on profits. Native American youth can join the army as they always have for any oppertunity. where is the billions that were stolen from the BIA Indian land managment trust fund over the last 75 years?

Just a paltry billion dollars? Jeez, the Bush Administration is slipping! They lose track of tens of billions in iraq every time we turn another corner (we've now "turned the corner" in Iraq 8 times, which means we're right back where started from, twice over).
Seriously, of the 15 or 16 that were in the running at some point in the last year, the only candidate with anything resembling a decent track record of dealing with Native Americans and their problems was New Mexico's governor, Bill Richardson, who is something like 1/8 Yacqui, and has had excellent dealings with the Pueblo, Apache and Navajo tribes within New Mexico. Your best hope for a President who will do more than pay lip service to Native American issues is for Richardson to become Obama's VP, and then run again himself in 2016.

Hopefully they all will address the need to stop allocating money to Native Americans. They are just Americans like everyone else. You lost your land, get over it. It was a long time ago.

Its very easy to announce such programs. It makes great politics. You get votes. Sometimes there is actual legislation introduced in congress. Usually it gets stuck in committee and dies. But for a while congressmen can appear to be doing something. And get votes. Sometimes the bill actually passes, and it ends up in bureaucratic red tape. Bills are usually written in generalities. After they are passed the particulars have to be written and money obtained. Often this never happens. Our government is very good at passing unfunded mandates.

None of them. Unfortunately, I think Native Americans will go largely ignored like they have been for the last 100 years. Maybe if Bill Richardson is asked to be the Democrat VP, he will advocate more be done for our country's original residents.

the american government lied. they never intended to give the native americans any money. all the indian treaties were broken by the american government, not the indians.
