Can anyone tell me why if you swallow fluoride that is in toothpast, mouth rinse and rat poision you are to?

call poison control. But our drinking water has twice as much or more fluoride as toothpaste and mouth rinse. Also why is it many countries and other states are banning fluoride in drinking water because it can be very harmful, but still my city and so many others are doing nothing.

There is a LOT more fluoride in toothpaste than drinking water. Water contains 1 part per million of drinking water. A VERY small amount. This small amount is not harmful. Small amounts of fluoride are very helpful just like small amounts of all vitamins, but if you take too much of anything it can be dangerous, harmful, or deadly. When fluoride is taken out of the water, fluoride vitamins have to be prescribed to children to make their teeth strong. This is VERY expensive and causes some to not be able to get this added benefit. Many people think fluoride is a chemical, but it is a naturally occuring element found in nature. In the correct doses prevents tooth decay and in very large doses can poison someone. A small amount of swallowed toothpaste is also NOT harmful, but if you swallow the whole tube it is harmful. Many people don't realize water fluoridation is the MOST studied thing by the FDA b/c many people think it is harmful. It has been studied more than ANY food or drug on the markets. It has ALWAYS been found safe and effective when put in water at 1 part per million as long as other fluoride supplements are NOT taken.

Fluoride in the water supply prevents tooth decay. American diet is so full of sugar and corn syrup that it is necessary. People don't brush their teeth.

Don't eat toothpaste on a regular basis, but if you swallow it once in awhile it won't harm you.

Did you know that they used to put sugar in toothpaste? When I was a child, the dentist gave us cans of Amurol Sugarless Tooth Powder.
