Have you ever had a dream that you could not explain in words?
I had a really interesting dream and I know exactly what it is about and I can see the dream clearly in my mind but I can't express it in words. No matter how I try to focus I can see the picture in my head, but I can't find the words to express it.
has this happened to anyone else? Could this be how it might feel for someone who is autistic?

That means you have very vivid dreams..I have the same problem, though my dreams are not so pretty for me to wish to talk about them, rather weird to say the least. The interesting part is, like you've said, when I think about them, picture them in my mind, I know exactly what it's about and what it means...but there is no way I can write them down. Maybe if you really want it, you could try to write down all the motives in your dream first, people, surroundings, your emotions or what ever that was going on and was in your dream. Put down as many as possible and in order in which they've appeared. That way you might be able to connect it and express it.

Interesting question Anita....
No don't want to lie and say I've experience what you've experience...which is probably a very rare phenomenon (maybe happens 0.001% if I were to take a guess). I have experienced though many a times I've dreamt something, woke up, and can't remember exactly what all I've dreamt (that you know as well as I do happens with a higher frequency).
Yeah, dreams fascinate me....I mean we're talking about the unconscious here. In regards to your question about someone feeling autistic, my personal opinion on this (though it will vary) is most likely not. I mean the fact they have prominent dysfunction in their communicative abilities, I don't think they would not want to try to explain it to anyone else. (not sure if that was what you were asking) Nonethess, they are so fascinating aren't they - it's like their entire reality/realm is seems a dream-world in itself to the non-autistic individual :-)

Yes, it's happened to me. A lot of my clients have reported the same experience.
It's not an autistic phenomena.
have you ever tried to describe being in love? Or your sadness at losing someone to death? Much of human experience cannot be captured in words ... that's part of the reason why art (including poetry) has developed.
Don't sweat it. It's not an autistic phenomena.
If you want to play with your dream, do something creative to express it ... draw ... paint ... dance ... act ... write haiku.
good luck!

I had that happen to me once a long time ago. I can still remember it very vividly. I can see the dream, and I can still remember the emotions it evoked. But, for the life of me, I can't find the words to describe it. When I woke up, I just remember the powerful emotions I felt. It was just overwhelming. I've only had that happen to me once. Glad to hear that I'm not the only who has had that happen to me!
