We rescued a dog - she is housebroken but poops in the house!?
My friend opened her door and this dog waltzed in - collar no tags. Long story short she got loose several times (or was let loose by the owners that didnt want her). She was with my friend for two days and didnt go once in the house. Since then she was picked up by the police and returned to owners then the dog catcher got her. She was going to be put down so we decided to rescue her.
I got her this morning and she has pooped twice in the house. I took her outside every 1/2 hour and she peed once. Then we went to pick up a crate and she peed when she got outside there.
Is this normal? I figure she may be nervous and she may not know what is going on.
Any suggestions??
I would appreciate any suggestions.
I think she may have been hit and yelled at a lot. When you scold her if it is too loud she lays down and wimpers.
Added on edit...
She went once in the morning and then later in the afternoon so it isnt like she is going all the time.
She is peeing outside for us and we have been praising her and giving her a small treat. She is not eating a lot so far. She finally ate some food this evening.
We never had a dog before, lived in this houe for six years. Had cat until three years ago but have the house cleaned so traces of them are slim.

have you had a dog before? this may answer the pooping question. she may smell another dog there and mark her territory. also she may have a stomach condition. have you taken her to the vet yet? ask for some tests for worms- small parasites in the stomach and heart- and he can fix it. worms can cause her a stomach ache and thats why she poops so often. and well of course she may be getting used to her new environment. so much moving around probably confuses her, with her owner, your friend, dog catcher, now your house, she cant tell up from down! but lay down the law. she will get used to it. she may only be whimpering to get your affection. you need to make sure she gets the correct habit in the beginning to prevent bad habits later. once she hears you are in control, she wont whimper, she will obey. hope this helps. good luck with her!

Yes, she is definitely scared right now, and will need a couple weeks to adjust. Just show her plenty of love right now. DO NOT SCOLD HER! She does not speak English and does not understand what you are saying and is already scared, you will make it worse. Ignore the bad behavior & reward the good. When she pottys outside, shower her with praise and a treat. Feed her on a schedule. She will need to eliminate about 30 min after she eats. When you take her out, wait for her to do #1 and #2 before you bring her back in. If she pees and does not poop, then bring her back in and put her in her kennel for 10-15 min and then take her out again. Repeat until she goes outside. She will learn to go outside, or have to stay in the kennel.
It will take patience and consistancy, but you will prevail. Also, please consider professional obedience classes.
Good luck to you.
