Should the 2008 Olympics be boycotted?

Boycotting the Olympics will only punish the athletes of that respective countries from losing an opportunity to participate and prove something to themselves. It will also hurt China in many aspects. But one thing it will not accomplish is freeing Tibet from China. So both sides will be negatively affected for nothing. And also, I don't understand why Tibet wants freedom from China since they are a part of China to begin with. Even if they're freed, they won't be economically able to sustain themselves.

Olympic should not be boycotted by the sports people but only by the kings and ministers of the countries should boycott the olympic. the things that are happening in tibet should not be held accountable to the athletes who have spend there whole life dreaming for this moment. they should not bear the consequences but atlist the higher people and the representative of their own country which has been appointed by people to avoid violence and peace and harmony in world. so they should atlist be on the stand while boycotting the olympics to atlist have a courtesy of giving back the world what it has given them.!! NO country should boycott the Olympics. Sports are Sports, Politics are Politics, neither one should go together. If any country boycotts the opening ceremonis its no big deal. Personally I think it would be awsome to see china finish 3rd or 4th in the medal count or maybe lower. These peole trying to persuade other people to support the boycott should all shut up and raise this issue after the event, DON'T TARNISH THE OLYMPICS.

If you are asking for an opinion, I think they should go on as usual. Jimmy Carter boycotted the Olympics and it had only negative consequences.

China has dissimilar human rights proceedings. additionally, anybody going to the Olympics has won a letter from our State Dept already telling them to anticipate their room to be bugged and their room to be searched. additionally, Osama Bin Ladin has threatened to do some thing. With anyone of those issues added up it places American Athletes in an especially precarious concern. I in basic terms ask your self however if that's worth their lives.

Why though? Imagine if we had boycotted the 1980 WINTER Olympics. There goes our underdog story.
