The best way to write a successful mystery story is by planning it out.
What kind of characters you want in it, how they'll look, how they'll behave, etc.
Having the start, first mini-climax, first resolution, then a little break from excitement, a BIG climax maybe one that had something to do with the first mini climax that was resolved wrongly and all the characters go ummahhh we got it wrong! and then its resolution... Just think about those kind of things and you should be well on your way.
Using descriptions for loctations and setting the scene is usually helpful for creating the right kind of suspense too!
I hope this helps.

Most of the time you can't force yourself to find a topic. It is a process that takes a long time and sometimes even years. Find a topic yourself by looking at real life things people can't figure out and fill in details or ask for ideas like your doing here but keep them general, because then it is easier to make it your own unique story. The second link I gave you you will probably want to look at first but if you are even only semi- serious you will want to look at both of them.
Here are some great sites you will certainly want to look at!

well it can be about murder like always!
maybe someone killed a teenage girl at a club
the FBI agent gets really into the case
since thats the way her little sister was killed
n the case was never resolved
and the same, the people who killed the teenage girl
will try to kill her too, at many occasions since she's being too nosy
at the end it could turn out to be that this murder was planned by some rich person who works for the government
who needed the girls organs in order for his daughter to survive
so the FBI agent uncovers the truth and he is sent to jail but
well thats my idea u can extend it or take things off
hope u liked it =]

Write about something you know well --a part of the country, a type of person, a career done by someone in your family (maybe something unique to other people, everyone has something that makes their life unusual).
Hope this helps!
Remember --it's a process.
Best of luck.

well have u seen the movie Alien?
if u have, do something like that
make characters who are all like trying to save themselves from the aliens, and throughout u discover that some of those humans r actually aliens too! so everybody starts eating each other!
thats the coolest idea id have, and my ideas r always unthinkable for stories / essays!
hope i helped :)

I personally like Agatha Christie's book. There about murders. For inspiration you could read the ABC Murder or my favorite " And then there were none." I love that book. Keep up the good work.

Well, you've chosen your genre so far...that's one step. But, coming up with a plot is your job. What do "you" want the story to be about?
