From comedian Lenny Bruce, and/or Dustin Hoffman's character when playing Lenny, some random quotes/thoughts (unverified):

Lenny Bruce: "You CAN'T shut up the deviant. You NEED the deviant to tell you when you are ******* up!"

Dustin Hoffman as Lenny: "You need a deviant! Don't shut him up!"

And as summarized in this randomly-found Blog post:

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/tom-gregory/theyre-n...

"Lenny Bruce was an insightful comedian who started his career being funny and died young while defending his right to free speech. He made comedy clubs the last refuge for honesty, but he was arrested nine times and convicted twice on obscenity charges for speaking his mind from the stage.

    ...

"Lenny Bruce defended himself against the ... obscenity charges pleading with the court not to persecute the deviant. Bruce said we need the warped to be brazen enough to point out society's most glaring and flawed beliefs. In today's presidential climate, that sentiment seems like a breath of fresh air."

Deviance is defined as any behavior that violates or goes against social norms. Since what one considers a "social norm", depending on their culture, age, etc, .may be different than someone else, we could all be considered deviant by someone. Society makes the rules, I suppose. But, we are part of society, so everyone helps make the rules.

I agree with TCB normal is b-o-r-i-n-g. If deviance is "not normal" or against the norm, I would much rather be deviant. I like deviantART too.

Going against the norm. Yeah, we're all deviant in some way. Thank God, the world would be boring as hell if everybody was "normal." Normal = dull.
